Guest guest
Kill me now. Just went to lunch at friend's house. " Oh no, trust me, there isn't any meat in those. " (Till today I never met something in a tortilla that I didn't like.) Yeah. Right. After 20 plus years of no meat, and not having most of my stomach (long story), to suddenly put some rancid ground animal in my gut made me really very sick. Made use of sick bag all the way home. Thankfully another friend drove me. She kept saying over and over that everyone was so certain that my refusal to eat meat was just silly and it wouldn't hurt to have just a little, that it is " all in your head. " (Actually now it is all gone.) Uh huh. Having some ginger tea now and had to take a phenergan before the gut started bleeding (been there before). I'm heading to bed to curl up with the cats and the bedroom dog and it is going to be a long time before I ever eat anything I didn't cook myself. UGH. So, someone explain to me what part of " I don't eat meat " is so blasted hard for others to accept? ARGH! Thanks for letting me vent. Jeanne, grumbling and whining in Georgia Next-gen email? Guest guest
Two sentences stick out: " Oh no, trust me, there isn't any meat in those. " and " it wouldn't hurt to have just a little, that it is " all in your head. " Errrrr.... these are friends?! Seems rather childish not to mention mean spirited on their part to sneak meat into your meal like that. Feel better soon! Guest guest
I agree, that is horrible, I had a friend almost die from an asthma attack because someone didn't believe she was allergic to avocados and decided to see what would happen by sneaking them into a pureed salad dressing. I love bugs and I never stick them on anyone but my sister because I know how many people have a phobia, she deserved it..........no, just kidding, I did that to her when we were young kids though. Guest guest
When we go to subway for a veggie hoagie I always ask that they change their gloves because I'm allergic to the nitrates in meat.I do this in restaurants too when asking about animal ingredients. Sad to say but most don't care if you're a vegetarian and might even think its funny to watch you eat meat and live. But most will think twice if they think you might die from an allergic reaction. So sorry what happened - some people just are so unaware and ignorant to how ethical vegetarians feel in their heart. ((((hugs))))) to you. Guest guest
Was it intentionally done, like they thought it was funny, or are they in the group of people that believe chicken is not meat? I had a friend almost make a separate poultry dish for a dinner for me, because she knew i " didn't eat meat. " White rice should help...and go with the protein " allergy/intolerance " explaination next time... , Angela <angelaamy2001 wrote: > > --- treazure noname <treazured wrote: > > > Kill me now. Guest guest
o my god Jeanne! How arrogant of them. I'm so sorry you went through that and maybe even worse, went through it with people you thought you could trust who didn't do it out of ignorance. Shame on them! I hope you feel better soon, sending hugs from Seattle. Peace, Diane > UGH. So, someone explain to me what part of " I don't eat meat " is so blasted hard for others to accept? ARGH! Guest guest
as a lurker, and a meat eater.. im still horrified! im trying to cut down on my meat intake, and up my healthy vegetable intake, for entirely personal health reasons.. not moral, ethical, or even severe medical (not yet, anyway). and i still dont get what these people did... " all in your head " ?? even if you didnt have a health problem to keep you from it, who do they think they are to decide what you should eat! avoid these food police in the future, and i hope everything will feel better for you soon lynn On 6/28/06, glpveg4life <glpveg4life wrote: > > Hi Jeanne: > > I am so sorry you had to go through that. Guest guest
--- Cheryl Baker <starborn59 wrote: Sad to say but most > don't care if you're a vegetarian and might even > think > its funny to watch you eat meat and live. Wow... I guess it works in my favor that I am a food snob (I mean it y'all I am such a snob about my food... even the presentation... don't hate me) and will not eat at chain or bigger restaurants. I only eat veggie restaurants or ethnic restaurants. The Mexican restaurant that I eat at has a vegetarian disclaimer on the menu and most Thai restaurants understand vegetarianism due to their Buddhist culture. When I go home to West Virginia I only eat pizza or Chinese the whole week. I also take my own groceries because I don't like all of the processed junk my family has. When I brought celeriac home they looked at me like I was an alien. Jeanne- vegetarianism aside, you have serious health issues related to your digestive system... would your friends give a diabetic sugar? No matter what your resoning is your friends should respect your life choices no matter what. Would they still be friends with you if you kept a dirty house, never had children, kept you head shaved? None of these decisions affect them and their ability to live their lives they are your choices. If you do choose to associate with them again you should inform them that you will bring your own food from now on so they do not need to even think about your food choices. I am so sorry that this has happened to you and I hope you are feeling better soon. I had a lot of trouble with my mother in deciding to become veg. luckily she didn't try to pull a fast one on me but she still considers my husband an extremeist because he is vegan. Guest guest
I'm so sorry that your " friends " lied to you, I still eat fish, but I always ask my guests what they like and what they don't and I Put all the vegetarian dishes in the white dishes and all the meat or fish dishes in the blue dishes with little flags that say whats in it. I would never lie to someone I don't think its funny. That would be the last time i spoke to anyone that knew and didn't say something if they did it to me.. My kids got sick once because of my ex in-laws and they haven't been back there since. I hope you feel better soon. Hugs AJ
Guest guest
" who's that? oh, her... " <shatha69 wrote " all in your head " ?? Sorry it took a while to answer, I got mired down in e-mails with an agorophobic friend. (Those of us who have made it Outside help those who cannot.) Nope, wish it was all in my head/ethics. I don't have a functioning stomach, only a small pouch that will hold approximately 20 cc; (30 cc is one ounce). Pouchie is very VERY picky and if I get sick and start throwing up, Pouchie ends up bleeding. Then my PCP panics and I have to go to the gastro doc who sees an opportunity to do an EGD and full colonoscopy (charged over 6,000 bucks, insurance paid 1200.) Sooooo I try to keep my evil Pouchie happy and not give it meat. Or hot hot hot spices. Darnit. I miss kimchee. Anywhoooooooo.... Pouchie, taking umbrage at being fed not only meat but spoiled meat at that, took offense and ended up bleeding. I called the PCP, got a different doctor who is...GASP...VEGAN!!!!! EEEK!!!! He called in a prescription for the whining brat that is my pouch and said to do protein shakes, applesauce and Jello. I er um'd and asked him if he knew what Jello was made of. Poor guy almost passed out. All these years and only now he finds out he's been eating boiled cow hooves. Yes I am anthropomorphizing my pouchie.trust me, if you had to live with this evil demanding picky thing in your body, you'd be doing more than thinking of it that way, lol!!!
