Guest guest
That is *exactly* what I was thinking Marilyn, when I read what Jeanne wrote! Seriously- Jeanne- your 'friends' sure must have known about your health situation as well as being a vegetarian. So they were not only being mean and selfish, but endangered your health. PLEASE be sure to tell them how you have reacted- from start to finish- emphasizing the bleeding as well. They need to know they did serious harm to you physically as well as mentally- that you will NEVER trust them again with food ( and perhaps in other aspects as well.....?). Think of it as enlightening them so they will not harm you or others ever again like that! As an aside- I had that happen to me- but thankfully I never had a bad reaction- whether it was my body or just that i was newer to being vegetarian....just after becoming a veggie my mom and sis would 'worry' about what to have for me to eat for family gatherings. Someone made a broccoli casserole- when I enquired if there was meat in it- I was told no. SO I ate and raved about nice it tasted- so it was a regular on the menu at gatherings as lots of us liked it and they knew I would eat it ( a Niece -in-law made it). Finally- YEARS later- long after they stopped worrying about my meat eating weirdness- my sister one day told me- I think I asked for the recipe if she knew it- said that it was easy to make just broccoli, cheese, and canned cream of chicken soup! (!!!!!!!!!!) I was so HURT, and angry with being lied to ( A BIG issue with me) and for being duped all those years. She thought it was funny. Then I also found out the special " no meat " baked beans she made for me in my own little dish....... she used " pork and beans' like she did for her regular ones- but made sure that " little piece of fat " wasn't in mine- so that made them ok!?!?! I didnt' say anything to that one- but again- inside I was so hurt. I vowed to not trust anything at family gatherings again- if I didn't make it- or I couldn't tell what was in it- I just didnt' eat it. Now I have no family to speak of here in Australia- so there are no gatherings to worry about. Eating at buffet-style restaurants can still be scary- but we dont' eat out often either! lol And in my old age I am less a purist than I was getting started. I try my best to eat animal-free- but dont' ask the waiters/waitresses anymore if there is chicken stock or whatever in the dish- cos most lie I think anyway- to save the hassle of finding out or losing out on the order. Anyone else have stories they want to share about friends or family sneaking 'meat' into things?? Or was this topic done before I joined? Guest guest
Jeanne, I agree that the situation you describe is bad. I had a situation in the late 70's when I unknowlingly ate fish. Yours is different since yours is a trust issue. Your friends flat out lied to you. I was at a harp recital at the U. of Oregon because I like harp music. I was with a friend of the same religion and afterward they had a reception. I was eating some veggies and dip. My friend noticed and started laughing. It turned out the dip was salmon. I still think that is kind of funny because I unknowingly did it. Your friends did it on purpose. Guest guest
I don't think it's funny at all when friends act as if it is funny. I just can't imagine laughing when a friend began consuming something I knew they were unaware of and how it might affect them. Guest guest
I think mentioned before that some people actually beleive that chicken or fish is not eating meat. And you are so right about restaurants. They dont' want the hassle of asking so they don't. They just tell you want you want to hear.Thats why I tell them I'm allergic to meat nitrates and certain ingredients. It's so difficult to be hard-core veggie and go out to eat. We will never know what they put in things really. French fries is the food I recently gave up. Their like toxic sponges, soaking up every ounce of everything that was deep fried in the same oil. Did you ever notice sometimes when eating a french fry it tastes like something else? ewwww Cheryl > That is *exactly* what I was thinking Marilyn, when > I read what Jeanne > wrote! > Seriously- Jeanne- your 'friends' sure must have > known about your health > situation as well as being a vegetarian.
