Guest guest
My daughter's school is nut free. There is a child who is so severely allergic that if she even smells nuts on another child's breath she can go into anaphylactic (sp??) shock. Sanna won't even eat anything with nuts in the morning in her breakfast in cast she should hurt Hannah. If I send a soy butter & jelly sandwich for lunch I have to write a note for the lunch supervisers....'this is soy butter, not peanut butter' or they won't let her eat it. I don't know why these allergies are so much more prevalent now, I've been lucky with my kids.AmyF
Guest guest
I think these allergies now stem from all the additives that children get in their foods from the beginning. I have thought that for a long time now. Being of the older generation, we didn't have those types of problems in our youth. Guest guest
We have nut-free schools as well. It started with nut-free sections, now the schools are completely nut-free. There are many children in the system with nut allergies. The kids carry epi-pens in case of exposure/reactions. I do the same thing with soy-nut butter. (writing notes to let staff know it's soy-nut butter *and* is manufactured in a nut-free facility.) I wonder if it is additives that has triggered the rise in allergies..? I've also wondered if having children not only " later " in life, but having medically induced pregnancies affects the health with children differently. It seems that the children I know (especially with nut allergies) weren't really exposed to many foods with additives though... Something that has me *really* wondering is the rise in autism. -- aside from being more diagnosed, it's definitely on the rise. Several of my closest friends have at least 1 autistic child. Anyway... I'm *way* too overtired to try and think into it so much! lol ~Kort
Guest guest
Marilyn I believe you are right on this. There are more additives now and also pesticides. I think children exercise a lot less also. Wbe n these additives combine with food and an emotion, our body cannot handle it. Our body/mind then associates that food with the additive and an emotion and we call it an allergy. Guest guest
You are also correct, GB!!! None of the youth are exercising now. We have over 50% of our high school students grossly overweight. I am talking 300 to 400 pounds. It is very sad. Guest guest
When I was a stay at home mom I used to get my kids out of the house most days, because I would take them and there friends to the beach or the playground. If it was to hot out I would let them stay in and watch movies in the morning and then after lunch I would take them and there friends to the library or the mall or a movie. gayle
Guest guest
Marilyn I was just kidding about this. I have the same problem with my son.During the school year, he does physical things and this summer wants to just do computer things. He is skinny though. Trying to get him to do more push ups and sitsups. Guest guest
Whether he is skinny or not, his muscles need to be exercised. All kids and adults need to do a regular exercise session. Even walking 4 to 6 miles would be something.
