Guest guest
Donna, My mother thinks that " God gave us animals to eat " and that my hubby can't be a good Christian if he won't eat any animal products. Somehow they have become one and the same in her mind. She really has gotten a lot better as the years go by (he is lactose intol. so he can't have that stuff anyway without getting sick)and now even calls me when she buys organic foods or tries some new vegetables. I think a big thing for her is that she can't cook for us anymore.. she tries but she just really doesn't understand the vegan thing. She is coming around slowly but surely. Guest guest
Hi Whitney, Glad your mom is coming around. I went through a similar time with my G'ma. I couldn't figure out why my food choices bothered her so much until the cooking thing dawned on me. That's how she nutures and cares for people so I think a part of her felt rejected by my not eating her cooking. I always make sure I request recipes of hers that I know happen to be veg and sometimes I bring a veg patty (though I turned them on to Gardenburgers and they love them hehehe) but usually I just eat extra veggies instead of whatever meat they are having and she's ok with that. To me, sharing a meal is more about the table than the food. Guest guest
Well, unfortunately, physiologically, we are now built to BEST process meat.... that's why it sits in your gut for so long... your body is doing a wonderful job of breaking everything down... we actually have a harder time digesting vegetable fiber.... hence we actually call it fiber.... we wouldn't if we digested it better. BUT like gorillas and pandas, we can live fine off of vegetable matter if we just eat enough of it. ) Remember, as you are reading this and probably disagreeing, I was RAISED a vegetarian, but College taught me this... doesn't mean I go out and eat beef. xoxoRobyn Amen! I think she and I have done the rounds with this argument.. the same with tattoos too! Guest guest
Whitney, I try not to bring my own religeous beliefs into a chat but please remind your mother in a loving way that in the begining humans did not eat meat. IT was only later according to the Bible after their disobedience they left the garden and were told they could eat meat. We were created with the intestines just like all other herbifores. Not at all like meat eating carnivores. I mention this only because you say your mother is Christian. Remember we are all at our own level of understanding.
