I will start to build up my self esteem. I'm one of the ones always

wishing I could and I don't because I always fear what others will

think, I eat things I don't like or might not be vegetarian because I

think I have to to keep peace or not make waves. I will stop doing

that, I always make myself uncomfortable inside.

Thank you!

thing is, I always have a following of people telling me they wish

they could be like me, or get away with that or eat like I do or

learn to cook or I wish I could learn to speak up, etc. Well, I

always tell them, be your own self, why do you have to " wish " ? You

can believe in yourself and make any change you like that is going to

make you feel better.

-Whitney,

Donna's advise to you is right on. You will be surprised how many

people feel threatened by our choices. Many would like to take a

stand but they become followers. It is safer to join the herd.

However if you really want to enjoy your life and have no regrets

straighten up that backbone and do what is best for you. Others will

admire you for it and follow your lead.

And do it with compasion and love.

If I am asked 'why' I am Vegetarian I take the opportunity to tell

them . Short and sweet. No preaching. I agree with Donna . I change

for no one, only if I choose to do so I change myself for me.

Sending smiles and hugs your way.

I get the brush off even from my family becaues of my

dietary beliefs and ethical stand. I refuse to let her

feed my son meat and when I politely tell my sister

that my son cannot have something because it contains

Aspartame, she laughs and rolls her eyes. I just say

sweetly that I apoogize if my concern for my son's

health offends her. You'd think family would be the

last to judge and disown you but seems they are always

the first.

Hey Amber you sound like me a long time ago, keep peace, don't make waves, yes

when i wanted to say no..........

one of the things I did that helped was to practice saying no - imagine a

situation you've been in when you didn't speak up - practice saying no ( or

whatever appropriate) and imagining all the possible responses of whoever the

other person/people might have, good and bad. think of good ( sticking to your

guns!) responses my basic rule of thumb is 'prepare for the worst, expect the

best, and reality will be somewhere in between' never as bad as imagined either

!

another good self assertion technique is repetition " no thank you, I don't eat

meat "

" no, store credit is not ok, I want my money back "

you stay calm cool and collected and just keep repeating the same line in the

same tone untill you get what you want.

I learned these in a self-assertion class a long time ago - now I'm a fat old

lady and don't care what anybody thinks :>) LOL far as I know everyone likes me

hehehehehe.

peace,

Angela
