Guest guest
This is very interesting. I love that you could take a bunch of grumblers and prove that the food they weren't interested in could be wonderful. Sam We did a school project with a group of 30 troubled children. On eating healthy and vegetarian/vegan.
Guest guest
Jack Well done!!! All the recipesgot a 90% or better rating. That says a lot about the openness of the children and if you expose them to good tasting healthy recipes, then they may change their diet. Also it is a tribute to the quality of the recipes the groups' members send in. Do you and AJ live near each other? Did you also provide the food for them to eat? It must have been a fairly expensive project. Thanks for doing it. They thought all we eat are vegetables, and told us so. Some of the children couldn't remember when they had a vegetable last. Which to me was very sad. So we did a cooking project and the children did the cooking in groups. I supplied the recipes from the 2 groups. > Donna's vegetarian group and AJ spicy vegetarian group. so that means the recipes were from you all. > > We cooked/made 21 recipes and parents/guardians other teachers voted on the recipes as well as our students. > AJ helped me with this project and also helps 15 children in her home once a week. Guest guest
Makes one stop to think how much better their eating habits would be if they were served these types of foods growing up. How kind of you both for helping these young adults, Marsha , " Samantha Lea " <saml wrote: > > This is very interesting. Guest guest
Way to go, Jack & AJ! Awesome job you did showing the kids and adults how delicious being vegetarian can be. So glad you were able to use one of my old favorite recipes, too. I am going to share your post with my teen daughter who just went vegetarian this last month. I never pushed her. Just cooked good veggie foods for everyone to taste and lived my own life, letting them eat meat if they wanted to. She chose to go veg on her own for some ethical reasons but mostly because she felt just better inside after she ate an all veggie meal over how she felt physically after eating a meal that included some meat. Aren't we all so blessed that veggie food just tastes so good and it is so easy! You both used a broad cross-section of different recipes. I am so impressed that all the recipes were received so positively; none under a 90% rating. That is so cool. Guest guest
Thank you PT sorry it took awhile to get back to you..busy here grrrrrrr lol The kids had so much fun with this project, and they did learn there is more to eating the a greasy mystery meat burger lol I got a call last night from one of the moms, she asked what an artichoke looked like she has a recipe she wants to try today, that really impressed me. So I spoke to Jack and he is going to make a vegetable book up for the parents, they may not turn to being vegetarians overnight but. I'm happy with 2 or 3 meals a week. Good for your daughter, we had comments from the parents about the food not being heavy for the amount they ate, they were full but not sluggish. hehehe I liked that to. Food is suppose to make you feel good, not yucky lol AJ
Guest guest
No worries, hon; I sure know busy! Yes, you are exactly right. That sluggish full feeling is gone with meatless meals. People can overindulge on any diet [veg or omni], but there is a definite difference in how your body responds to meatless meals which is what truly sold my daughter on making the switch for herself. I am so glad she did, too. It was kind of lonely being the only veghead in the house. She likes to cook, too. Double-yay! It is such a wonderful thing you and Jack did. I try to do the same on a much smaller scale when I go to parties, BBQs or anywhere I need to bring a dish to pass around. It is fun showing people that eating vegetarian is not boring la-la-salad only living. The flavors, textures, and presentation are so unique once you break free of the notion you need to have a hunk of gunk with " side dishes " . A full plate of interesting " sides " full of variety is what I consider my main dish. ~ PT ~ Intelligence is not to make no mistakes, but quickly to see how to make them good. ~ Bertolt Brecht ~~~*~~~*~~~> , " AJ " <coolcook wrote: > > Thank you PT sorry it took awhile to get back to you..busy here grrrrrrr lol > The kids had so much fun with this project, and they did learn there is more to eating the a greasy mystery meat burger lol > I got a call last night from one of the moms, she asked what an artichoke looked like she has a recipe she wants to try today, that really impressed me.
