Guest guest
Migraines are related to stress. Usually those prone to getting them due to stress, get them after the stressful event has passed, which I find is true in my case. There is also a hereditary factor, esp. amongst females. My mom gets them; I get them. My triggers are primarily lights...especially flashing lights or going from a very bright to very dark environment or vice versa. Also women's perfumes...but not men's. I don't drink anymore, but when I did, I couldn't drink red wine. I've also found that lately large quantities of raw onion and garlic (gassy foods) can set one off. Does anyone else get auras with theirs? I get a zigzag in my vision, start to lose my peripheral vision, have a stinging across my nose, my hands can tingle, and it can seem like my arm movements are disassociated from my body...like I'll lift my arm, but it's not where I would think it would be based on my movement...it's hard to explain. It's all rather frightening. I would be sick for days as a teenager. They are much less severe and frequent now. I would mix up words and forget things. It's like the symptoms of a stroke. My friend's hubby had them very badly, then had surgery on his nose, and they basically cleared up. I wonder sometimes if something with my nose affects mine...I have a very difficult time breathing out of my one nostril. I probably had a broken nose at some point. Thanks for all the tips yogi!!! , " a.bu " <the_saga_of_writing wrote: > > alot of mailing from me today... > > i think migraines have some connection to stress... the nervous system > and stomach nerves somehow work together... you feel full without eating > something or similar. > > that's my experience. > > have you checked your eyes sight? i had a lot of headaches before i got > glasses. > > best wishes! > anni >
Guest guest
Yes on auras, bad ones. Lots of pretty lights all over the place. Then everything gets very bright, sometimes a red wash over my vision. Then nausea, hyper sensitivity to noise, touch. About that time, if I am not in my bed, with the blinds drawn and fan running, I am in for a bad one. Unfortunately my Meniere's attacks start much the same way but with the world spinning and a loud roaring in the ears. Ugh. Jeanne in Georgia PS: plus am allergic to Immitrex, et al. Guest guest
I've had migraines since age 13. I've stopped the car on the freeway due to auras and nausea many a time. I use Imetrix when needed, it works. Wine and chocolate are bad for me and bright lights. The aura will last 1/2 hour, looks like an acid trip, Picasso painting and sometimes firework sparklers. They are much better now that I'm older but I still get them and they are usually centered on the left side. Donna Lisa Veg*n <vegetariankids wrote: Migraines are related to stress. Guest guest
The bathroom at work is one square white tile and the other black, they moves is circles and actually before the migraine hits like a bomb the aura is really cool to see. Sometimes everything will be tinited mauvefrom one eye, that's pretty too. Maxalt doesn't work on me, I liked the Imetrix shots, I don't think they use them anymore, that works in a few minutes vs. 45 minutes with the pill. Guest guest
-- I never did like the aura especially if I at work and in the middle of making sure the narcotic count is accurate with the next nurse or if I am in the middle of doing my med pass. Imitrex only worked for me for three or four months and I had to switch to the Maxalt. I took it once and I didn't like it, it worked but, but it hasten the vomiting part of my migraines, and lucky i made it to the bathroom just in time with seconds to spare. the doctor has given me midrin the other day along with firocet with codeine. I take the midrin if I have a migraine on a day when I don't have to work and the firocet goes with me to work, so far it works but i don't want to jump for joy yet. - In , Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > > The bathroom at work is one square white tile and the other black, they moves is circles and actually before the migraine hits like a bomb the aura is really cool to see. Guest guest
Wow I am so glad I don't suffer with these. Both of my sisters do, but I have never heard them mention the aura's with it. A friend that has aura's but no migraines with it, is told by her doctor that they are a type of seizure. I can't imagine how scary these aura's would be to have this happens when you are driving, away from home or anywhere for this manner. My heart goes out to all of you that suffer from migraines. My middle sister almost always has a migraine headache. It does turn out that my youngest sister does have glaucoma though, but her doctor doesn't seem to be concerned about it. Ugh........ Guest guest
Thank you so much Judy, I have friends, co-workers and costomers that ask me how I can work with one and I tell them that I have been having them for so long I have learned how to cope with them. It is like if someone has a sore back or knee, how can they work with that, they learn how to cope and deal with it to get by. Val wwjd <jtwigg wrote: Wow I am so glad I don't suffer with these. Guest guest
I started getting auras, but no pain, about 7 years ago. I feared I might have a brain tumour and went to my doctor who said I was having migraines, that I should be grateful I didn't get the pain and that I should cut down my caffeine intake. And she wondered why I hadn't bothered to go to see her for the previous 10 years! Christie , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: > > Wow I am so glad I don't suffer with these. Guest guest
Christie, that is rare I do believe. A master blaster migraine usually follows soon after the aura. I can handle the aura but the migraine is so intense. I have had many migraines and no aura but never an aura and no migraine following. Guest guest
Not everyone gets auras...it's just a special little bonus for some of us! Ha! Mine don't hurt...they just cause dread bc I know what might be coming, and fear if I'm away from home bc I know I've got to get home. Just last week I was 40 minutes from home with my toddler and started getting my aura. I immediately left for home since it's 40 minutes on one scary highway system around DC. Fortunately, I never actually got a severe headache. > > , " wwjd " <jtwigg@> wrote: > > > > Wow I am so glad I don't suffer with these.
