Guest guest
My grandmother had a gooseberry bush and I recall that they were a tart litle berry very pale greenish in color and became pink when ripe. Grandmother made gooseberry jam and I can still remember it's distinct flavor. Come to think of it I haven't seen them in the market for ages. Now I am curious..Anyone have a gooseberry bush. I have seen them for sale in seed catalogs. Deanna
Guest guest
I work for a super center called Meijers and we sell the gooseberries! Never tried them, how would you eat them? Guest guest
I'm the one who asked originally (mistaking PT's reference for the fruit, when she meant a store). We tried eating them straight. They looked like pale green grapes but the texture was different. The taste was... unique. I bet it would be good in jam, though. Tonight I made Mike's TVP/veggie crockpot stew. Darn, is it gooood! It's a very loose recipe and I used reconstituted TVP, garlic, broccoli, green beans, tomato puree, peas, corn, zucchini, drained black beans. I added a couple splashes of veggie broth and some rubbed Cajun seasoning and a bit of salt. I cooked it on low for 7 hours, and it came out pretty mushy, but what yummy mush! :-) I was thinking it would be great in a flour tortilla (as a sort of burrito). Or as a sloppy joe sort of concoction. Or on top of rice. But I ate it straight sprinkled with parmesan. Yummay! Thanks, Mike!
