I always thought C & H brown sugar was better for you

but I heard the same thing. I have 70 lbs of raw

organic sugar to use up. It sure does taste better in

baked goods so that's what I'm working my way through

right now.

Brown sugar is just processed white table sugar with some molasses added

to it. It's not a " rawer " form of sugar. :-)

You are right Linda. It is bleached white sugar, with molasses added. I love

the raw organic sugar. I use it in most everything, including my humingbird

feeder food. I bring a cup of water to boiling temp in the microwave or stove

top, then add the raw sugar. Stir until it dissolves, which happens easily in

really hot water. Then I add ice to bring it back to room temp. Then I serve

my hummingbirds this or dilute it to make lemonade, etc. with... The little

hummers love their sugar water that I make them.

I have never heard of muscovado before but I've never been to the

Phillippines either. Honey is glucose I believe and sugar is

sucrose. I think all natural sweeteners are better than sugar.

Chemicals are used to process sugar and nutrients are taken out. I

think brown sugar and raw sugar are only marginally better because a

few more nutrients are left in. Both are processed with chemicals.

Sucanat or organic sugar are much better because no chemicals are

used in processing. for diabetes, all sugars, whether natural or

processed put a great stress on the pancreas. Low glycemic foods

are best. Sugar substitutes except for stevia should be avoided.

Muscovado is a type of unrefined sugar with a strong molasses flavour. It is

also known as Barbados or moist sugar. It is very dark brown in color, and

slightly coarser and stickier than most brown sugars. Unlike most brown sugars,

which are composed of refined white sugar with molasses added, muscovado takes

its flavor and color from the sugar cane juice it is made from. It offers good

resistance to high temperatures and has a reasonably good shelf life. The

unrefined sugar goes well with coffee and other beverages, and was one of the

most prominent export commodities of the Philippines in the 1800s. - from

Wikipedia

Muscovado Sugar is processed the natural way--completely free from any harmful

chemicals such as phosphoric acid, formic acid, sulphur dioxide, preservatives,

or any flocculants, surfactants, bleaching agents or viscosity modifiers.

Muscovado Sugar has 11 calories/ 4 grams (1tsp). It is also nutritionally rich

& retains all natural mineral & vitamin content present inherent in sugarcane

juice. Details shown in nutrition chart below--

Nutrients Muscovado Sugar

(Per 100g) Total Mineral salts 740 mg max. Phosphorus (P) 3.9 mg max.

Calcium (Ca) 85 mg max. Magnesium (Mg) 23 mg max. Potassium (K) 100 mg

max. Iron (Fe) 1.3 mg max.

Imbalance in minerals is one prime cause of disease. Reason for this is over-

consumption of refined products like refined sugars, refined oils, & refined

salt. It is therefore vital to consume less processed, more natural & nutritious

products such as the healthy & wholesome Muscovado Sugar.

Organic sugar is a lot better for you. There are no chemicals that

affect the liver but sugar is sugar as far as the pancreas is

concerned so it affects people with hypoglycemia and

diabetesespecially.

I think tupelo is better than regular honey or organic sugar but it

still breaks down much faster than more complex carbs like granis or

beans. Millet is the best grain from what I understand.

I use raw sugar.

the real danger is in high fructose corn syrup.

I could just scream that these companies will not get rid of it and start using

sugar instead. Even Gatorade has high fructose corn syrup in it, grrrr.

that is what causes diabetes. She also said that, raw sugar was the

that is so heart warming!

I feed my robins and occasional cardinals birdseed, and in the wintertime,

birdseed and peanut butter.

Sugar is not really the cause of diabetes.... usually...... I don't know enough

to say if there are cases where sugar has caused diabetes, but from my reading I

have learned that the main culprit is high fructose corn syrup. because sugar

requires a digestive step to break it down, so it doesn't hit the pancreas with

a wallop like HFCS does, because it does not require this digestive step and

just plows on through to the islets of langerhans (insulin producing glands on

the pancreas)

Whole foods Brand of soda has sugar in it instead of HFCS by the way.

Organic sugar is a lot better for you. There are no chemicals that

affect the liver but sugar is sugar as far as the pancreas is

concerned so it affects people with hypoglycemia and

diabetesespecially.
