I like the golden beets - they have a less intense beet flavor than

red ones and are good in salads.

Peace,

Diane

You were really treated to some most beautiful sites. Thanks for sharing that.

What a funny name for that Bay? Wonder how it got it's name.

I'm feeling very glad that the birds are staying away from my veggie garden.

Sorry to hear they have made it a feeding station in yours.

Re:OT Birds Jolie

Reading about the Heron's reminded me of a wonderful site I had this

past sunday. I live on Whidbey Island and run everyday. On sunday I

ran one along Useless Bay on the south end of the island and it was

really, really low tide. I usually stop at this one spot to streatch

and sometime see one or two herons. On sunday I counted over

22!!!!!!!!! It was awesome. Then running home I spotted two bald

eagles. Very, very cool. We have a lot of bird life in our yard and

recently put up a bat box to help with the evening bug time. the

birds have really taken to hanging out in my garden this year. I

wonder if they will help my tomato's grow faster???!!! I wish! I ate

my first cherry tomato yesterday. I tried to take it last, but gulp!

Major yum! We also dug up our first potato's, they were All Blue's

and boy oh boy are they good! Well now I'm rambling! I hope everyone

is having a nice day! Cheers, Heidi

like a bird aviary. So many flying around and singing their little

hearts out. We have 3 feeders up near our living room window and

especially in the fall winter and spring, they are loaded with birds.

It is great to see them up close without disturbing them.

I guess they feel safe.

The other evening a group of 10 kept flying in circles over the

house. Every time the flew back over the patio there was one less in

their group, until they got down to only one that made the final loop.

We laughed, because it seemed like they were playing a game to see

who was the last one remaining in the pack.

just love being near a pond at daybreak when the mist is rising off

the water? What a nice place to have a breakfast. My mom lives in

Florida and there are ponds all around the place she is at. When we

visit her, we see all kinds of wildlife, birds and alligators. It is

very peaceful.

sitting at my grandparents sliding glass door and watching the birds

come to the bird feeders. Now, I lived in a suburb just outside

Boston, Ma and I remember very clearly the day the pheasants came to

feed. Pheasants are very rare around my area, so it was a big deal.

They were beautiful. I also used to lay on my back in my backyard and

watch the hawks circle above. The most beautiful thing I ever saw was

in Maine when I was about maybe 15-16 years old. My parents and

grandparents own houses right on the water and one morning I was up

before everyone else. I walked down to the dock to have my breakfast

and perched on the end of the dock was a Great Heron (I believe). I

had never seen one up close, by that time I was on the dock, and it

was beautiful. It looked right at me, looked at the water, looked at

me and casually flew off. It was breathtaking. Didn't mean to ramble.

Hi Judy,

I think Blue Potatoes are just wonderful!! They have a creamy texture

and a full rich flavor, next up for me would be red rosa potatoes.

They are both great boiled, with a pince of dill, salt and pepper.

Yum! I love all potatoes. :)

Useless Bay on Whidbey Island got it's name for being so called

" useless " , by Captian Vancouver. ( I think that's the right Captian).

When he was exploring the area, the tides were(and still are)so

extream, it's not a good bay to dock in. The boats in the bay at low

tide sit on the sand. I don't think the bay is useless at all, I love

all the wildlife.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for sage? I have a massive bush of

it. I " ve given a lot of it away, frozen some, but still seem to be

swimming in it.

Cheers,

Heidi
