Guest guest
I don't have one they cost almost 3,000 kroners. I have been thinking about using the oven as it has a fan setting and dehydrating some zucchini and carrots what else could I dehydrate? L & K, Lu lu, where do you live? i saw " kroners " which reminded me of denmark (i grew up in denmark) on the subject of dehydrating - i have tried the oven, i was " trying " to make pizza and that didn't work that well - but for fruit and veggies i'm sure it will be do-able! -birte <http://www.caninegenius.com/> www.caninegenius.com smart toys for your dog
Guest guest
Lu, you might check out what Doug is eating while hiking the Continental Divide for some ideas: http://www.rawhike.com/foodplan.shtml I haven't actually looked at this in a couple of days. I am thinking there are things on there that you can prepare without a dehydrator. Last night I bought a new raw food book and I remember in the index a listing of a chapter on raw camping/hiking. I'll take a look at that and report back -- tomorrow. There's always a case of bananas ... Annette (Washington State)

Guest guest
Hi Lu! yes, I've made dried bananas - I didn't think much of them, compared to whole, fresh, ripe bananas - I found them to be a disappointment. and, then, I wasn't going camping on a mountain top for 2 weeks! lol! they might help in a pinch, and they are a very " dehydrated " food, meaning they will suck water out of the body, almost literally. all the best, Bob rawfood , Lu <Dahzhid@g...> wrote: > I am in Norway I made some zucchini chips a while back and they did > pretty well although it took a while and Kris kept turning the oven > off..lol. > > Thank you Annette for the great web page it had some wonderful ideas. > > has anyone ever made thier own dehydrated bananas? Guest guest
I am actually not to worried about water. The land we are hiking on is owned by Kris' father's family who are sheep herders so it is a seter. While we could stay in the cabin we think it would be more fun staying in the great outdoors but it has a stream running through it that is the melting run off of a glacier on top of the mountian. So water is in plenty But I haven't been camping in years and I am a bit panicy. If I could I would take a backpack full of bananas and lettuce but Kris needs to eat to and while I could live on this I think it would just upset him Plus the lettuce would be kinda ooky after a bit The bad news is that it looks like the trip is going from 1 week to a week and a half as Kris is having Lasik surgery (rolls eyes) on the 25th of august.
