Guest guest Posted August 24, 2005 Report Share Posted August 24, 2005 HI Kristi! two quick thoughts (and my long, intense workouts are in the 3-5 hour range for tennis matches, which include more " down " time than aerobics:) before hand, like an hour before: large fruit meal, concentrating on bananas and dates... *during* the workout, in my water bottle, I take homemade " Naturade " (compliments of Dr. Doug Graham): which consists of the following: 1 banana water to fill bottle blended until liquid if workout is going to be over an hour, I add some celery..also really blended up. (quick hint: make sure the top is screwed on tightly - it makes a bit of sticky mess if ya spill it... been there...done that...! lol!) my wife is a marathoner, and she's started taking it in her water bottle on long runs, and she likes it also. it works great, and the logic is just like the original Gatorade research at the UofF, that we're replenishing the water with water, and some of the sugar and electrolytes with the banana's sugar, and the electrolytes from the celery.
