Guest guest
Hi everyone! The first week I attempted eating raw foods I was really excited; reading all the books, preparing interesting foods. Although I try to eat at least one raw meal a day, I usually end up getting discouraged with all the preparation and my lack of knowledge. It's so hard to come home after a day at work, and think about what to make. If I have nothing sprouted or soaked, (which is most of the time) I end up eating salad and guacamole (getting tired of that). I also end up always being hungry, and snacking on other stuff later in the night. Also, the weather is getting colder and I am craving warm foods. I was thinking of purchasing a book called Raw in Ten Minutes by Bryan Au. Does anyone think this book might be helpful in continuing my journey to raw-foodism? At this point, I need all the help I can get because I don't have any special equipment yet. I will say, that when I eat out and get meals, I always get a salad instead of cooked veggies or fries! That must count for something Thank you! Lisa tulip27 ----CARPE DIEM!!----
Guest guest
Brian Au was really promoting his book about a year ago in another group I'm in. He raved on and on about it and then left the group! Anyway, he gave us a couple of the recipes to try. I didn't personally try them, but a friend of mine (who has 5 kids now, 4 of them under the age of 4!) said that they tasted great, but take longer than 10 minutes. Sorry, but HTH! Guest guest
I purchased Raw in Ten and returned it because almost all the recipe's contain Miso. I also read a review that none of the recpies took just ten minutes. Check out the recipes on this website (below)....they look pretty simple for the most part. Also, you may try finding different pate recipes. I often put a large mound of pate in the middle of a plate and around the edge pile on greens and diced veggies. Every time you change the pate, the meal is different. http://fromsadtoraw.com/RawRecipes.htm Good luck! paula rawfood [rawfood ]On Behalf Of tulip 27 Wednesday, November 16, 2005 7:02 AM rawfood [Raw Food] Having trouble, need advice Hi everyone! Guest guest
I would NOT recommend Bryan Au's book. The " 10-minute " time does not include sprouting, dehydrating, etc., and most take more than 10 minutes even given time for sprouting or dehydrating! I did not find his recipes tasty or even very unique. It is not a quality book. Take a look at the reviews on Amazon.com and see for yourself. What I would recommemed is Alissa Cohen's " Living on live food. " It is great for a starter and she's got lots of great, easy, quick recipes! It comes with an optional DVD, which I also recommend, just for the tips alone! She is very down to earth, also. Kristi
Guest guest
Frederic Patenaude has a simple recipe book. Buy why do you need to prep or have equipment. Just eat whole fruit and salads. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your help! Actually, since I've posted I've heard from a few people not to buy the Bryan Au book. I just purchased the Living on live Foods Book with DVD by Alissa Cohen on her website. Can't wait to get it. I hear it has inspired a lot of people Lisa tulip27 ----CARPE DIEM!!----
Guest guest
I purchased Raw in Ten Minutes and I have to disagree in the 10 minutes. I did not find it helpful. I hear but do not have it that Fredrick Patenaude has a fast easy receipe book out and they are very simple and quick. I don't like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Back a year ago I used to make all the complicated receipes but I got tired of it and all the nuts in them I put on weight. I am the only one eating raw in the house so I ended up eating the whole thing. Linda Sue tulip 27 <tulip27 rawfood Wed, 16 Nov 2005 09:02:13 -0400 [Raw Food] Having trouble, need advice Hi everyone! Guest guest
Actually, I was just on his website and ordered it (he's from my hometown!) I have his first book but it was a little too advanced for me. Eating simple foods sounds like a great idea, more recipe books should be simple. I find many uncook books can discourage people from becoming raw. Thanks! Frederic Patenaude has a simple recipe book. Buy why do you need to prep or have equipment. Just eat whole fruit and salads. Guest guest
Another really awesome raw uncook book is Serene Allison's. She also has a small booklet with coconut recipes. You can purchase hers at www.aboverubies.org. If you click on 'Ordering Books and Tapes' and then click on 'SERENE AND PEARL' The two recipe books are called REJUVENATE YOUR LIFE! RECIPES FOR ENERGY for $18 and COCONUT BUTTER RECIPES for $4.95. A lot of them require a dehydrator, but there are many recipes you could do with minimal equipement. They are very good!
