I have been using an American Harvester Snackmaster constantly for

13 years. They still sell for $35 and I can buy new parts for it and

add shelves. I tested the temp originally and again about 5 years

ago and it was still aaaccurate. It depends on your budget, but this

has always worked well for me and I can replace the Snackmaster if

it ever goes out and still use my extra trays.

I am interested in what people use for fermenting and where they

have found recipies that they like. A raw food restaurant that we go

to uses fermennted zucchini slices for lasagne noodles and I would

like to make them. Help!

Hi, Laurel. I am still a relative newbie, but I bought a Harsch stoneware

fermenting pot this

year, and I love it. I also bought a book called Making Sauerkraut and Pickled

Vegetables at

Home, by Klaus Kaufmann and Annelies Schoneck, which has some recipes -- and

while

there's not one for zucchini per se, there is one for pumpkin and squash, which

could

probably be used.

The Harsch crocks can be found online -- do a Google search -- and I found that

prices vary

quite a bit, so do shop around if you decide to buy.

Thanks for your suggestions! I will start fermenting AFTER I survive

the holidays.
