Guest guest
Hello, everyone. I was on this group a year ago, when I first attempted to go raw. I began on January 3rd last year, and for six weeks succeeded wonderfully, not at 100% raw but close. I lost 20 pounds, gained tons of energy, got rid of my migraine headaches (they stayed gone for about 6 months after I stopped eating raw!), slept better than I had in ages, and saw just all kinds of wonderful changes in attitude and whathaveyou. Unfortunately, I had absolutely no support other than this group and other internet contacts, and eventually went back to SAD. During the course of the year, I made several attempts to get back into raw eating habits, but every attempt absolutely backfired, with the result that I have gained a significant amount of weight and am now 100 pounds overweight. This year, on January 3rd, I again set my sights on going raw. For two days I did wonderfully, and on the third day had a screaming headache that kept me in bed for two days. I ate almost nothing for those two days, and *that* is when I lost what little weight I have lost so far. The second day of the headache, I couldn't stand it anymore and took some aspirin and ate some chocolate (great for headaches, as it turns out). Since then, though, the most I've been able to accomplish as far as eating raw has been to eat fruit in the morning. I am getting approximately 60 ounces of water daily, although that is not sufficient for my weight at this point, but beyond that I am finding it nearly impossible to keep up the changes in my eating habits through the day. By this I mean that I start out with the fruit, and maybe will have vegetables or a salad at lunch, but by mid- afternoon I'm right back to eating chips and making a " meal " of cheese and crackers! Quite honestly, I can't tell at this point if my problem is psychological or physiological, and I have no clue how to overcome it! Does anyone have any suggestions for me? How do I get over this, get back into the healthy lifestyle, and *stay* on it? Thanks! Carolyn
Guest guest
What state or in Carolyn? Perhaps we all can assist you in finding some local support in addition to this group. Guest guest
My 2 cents... Screaming headaches can often be alleviated by helping dump toxins -- enemas work wonders for me. After one or two filtered water (plain) enemas (NOT tap water), I do an organic retention enema -- that means holding it for about 15 minutes (NOT supermarket coffee, which is one of the most pesticide-laden products on the shelf). That clears 95% of my headaches, and other toxin-related symptoms. I suggest The Raw Food Detox Diet -- and for support, do what Victoria Boutenko did -- started her own support group, then wrote about it (12 Steps to Raw Foods). Both available as used books on Amazon (they have websites, too). Boutenko lost 120 pounds, while the first author is a model and clinical nutritionist. Covers both ends of the spectrum. Bottom line -- in my experience -- help yourself, by helping others. No need to be an 'expert', that's how AA, OA, GA, Alanon, and thousands of other support groups started...someone had a problem they couldn't find help or support for. Ask a local church, rec center, hospital or library about using a room for a token amount (pass a basket for volunteer donations) or you might get one for free. Ask. See? I feel good just typing this email message of support. Guest guest
Carolyn, I've been a vegan for about 18 years and completely raw for five plus. You'll probably hear back a lot of opinions and a variety of approaches to help you master this area of your life. I could go on and on, as I'm sure they'll be going on and on since deep down what really connects us humans is that we respond and try to help when we feel someone is in genuine need of some kind. I think you are, and it's wonderful that you are making an effort to try and you are making this effort to reach out. Rather than relate my experiences on the path, for now I'll take a shortcut and point you in the direction of the Boutenkos: They are the Raw Family http://www.rawfamily.com/ and some of the most amazing people I have ever met. Back a few years ago when I was on the raw path for close to two years already... and most of the time I was doing fine but there were times when it was an extremely hard struggle to stay 100% raw. I'd go for 3 to 4 weeks fine and then I'd just crash for a day or too.. (Never into SAD though, but just back into cooked vegan food: cooked rice or baked potatoes but the lure of the cooked food kept pulling a lot harder after tasting anything cooked) Then I met the Boutenkos, spent an amazing evening together with them, along with another hundred or so people. They were pure inspiration and a living walking example of this vibrant lifestyle, not to mention their loving ways of reaching out and share with others what they have discovered on their remarkable journey. Victoria spoke nonstop for over three hours. Igor prepared a huge variety of delicious raw foods from appetizers to deserts and there was such volume of food that in spite of an enthusiastic and hungry crowd there seemed to be an unending abundance as more and more food kept pouring in.. Everyone was happy and everyone was inspired. I bought two of their books at that event, 12 Steps To Raw Foods and The Raw Family. I read both of them the next day, and after that I never looked back. As I was reading the 12 Steps.., it instantly became clear and made the most sense to me that the addiction factor was missing from my understanding of the equation and that was the reason I kept slipping now and then. That was one of the variables that kept me in its grip up till that time. But there is much more, that little book can lead one around the subject in full circle. Victoria brings an enormous insight, a lot of passion and a pure loving desire to share with others what she has found out for herself after an untold amount of personal struggle, research and study -- followed by proving it in practice by herself and her family. Many say about her books: .. " read these and you need to read no more because you have read them all.. " I'd say read the 12 Steps first and chances are you'll be on your way to a brand new way of life with vibrant health and along with what's supposed to be your normal weight. I wish you the best in your efforts to continue and to fully succeed! joseph rawfood , " butterflyintransit " <omgimaduck1@c...> wrote: > > Hello, everyone. Guest guest
For support, go to and do a search for Raw Foods and then the nearest town from you, there might be a local raw food support !
