Guest guest
I am considering a raw food diet as part of a healing process from several disorders that I developed suddenly and unexpectedly 2 years ago. I have mitochondrial disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes, and hashimoto's disease. Has anybody on the list had firsthand experience with a raw food diet in the presence of any of these or similar illnesses? Thank You, Diana

I had lupus for 20 years and was largely bed-ridden for most of that time. I adopted the raw food diet in October of '04 and now I enjoy health and lead a normal life. Since this well being is new to me, I am like a kid in a candy shop, enjoying my life like no other. I have had slips, some major, during that time, but I remain faithful to this as I see what a huge difference it makes. When you see what the allopathic regime can offer you, and then peek over here at robust health, simplicity, and happiness. It's an easy choice. Your friends will think you crazy at first. I have had many friends tell me how silly my way of eating is. But more and more people sidle up to me and ask if I would please tell them about how I eat and what to do. Quite a few have adopted this in whole or in part. Good luck on you journey, Lane
Guest guest
Lane, Wow! That is good to hear did you go 100% raw? Did you do a gradual transition? Everyone already thinks I am crazy, so I am not worried about that. I have taken a lot of flach for just being vegetarian. When I went vegan people got even worse. Many people I know blame the development of my health problems on me " eliminating meat " from my diet. I even went back to eating meat for about a year out of desperation to get better. I stayed sick, and got fat. Not a good combo. Thanks! Di rawfood , " Lane Martin " <lanie wrote: >> Hello Diana. I had lupus for 20 years and was largely bed-ridden for most of that time. Guest guest
No I went all at once, %100 or close, (salad dressings etc). Just fumbled my way. I had skin cancer but needed several surgeries which I needed to gain strength to get through. I had a month and went all out. Getting cancer, what a gift! Who knew? I stayed that way for a year, sent 'off the wagon' a few months ago and am happily settled back in for now. I'm sure I will have fits and starts, but I will keep going in the direction I need to go. By the way, if you have any lingering questions about meat, I recommend The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. That should settle things in your mind. It's so factual. I wonder what all the dieticians make of it? Anyway if you can bring yourself to try this for a month or three, I think you will be hooked for life. (no pun intended lol) Yours in health, Lane - Diana P. rawfood Wednesday, February 08, 2006 12:21 PM Re: [Raw Food] Chronic Illness Lane, Wow! That is good to hear did you go 100% raw? Guest guest
Hi Diana, I HAD fibro, chronic fatigue, and multiple sclerosis. While not gone completely (time will tell), I am completely off pain meds, and am able to walk again (without a cane). This diet has saved my life. I've been on it for only 2 months, and the results, health wise, have been spectacular! windflower jan " Diana P. Guest guest
Hi Sally, I could not walk without a cane, was concidering a stair-lift because it was exceedingly difficult to climb up stairs. I was in terrible pain all the time. My right leg would give out while I was walking, and I would have to step-drag, step-drag, step-drag. I spent the majority of my day, sitting in my chair, shaking and crying. I couldn't stand long enough to do the dishes all at once, would do a few, sit down, do a few more. By about 3:00 pm, I would be in so much pain, I spent the rest of my day, sitting in my chair, shaking, and crying. I started about 50% raw around Thanksgiving. I lost a little weight, and felt a little better. Still, needed a cane to walk, not much improvement. Right around Christmas, I went 100% raw. In a few days, yes, only a few days, I was beginning to feel less pain. I started walking, (more like waddeling) maybe for 10 minutes, back and forth, in the hall between my living room and kitchen. A few days later, i walked for 15 minutes, then 20. Then I'd walk for 20 min, rest for 10, walk again. At first, I held onto the wall, and my walking was terrible. After a few weeks, I was walking 45 min to an hour unassisted. I stopped using my canes. AND, I stopped using Neurontin and pain meds, something I had depended on for 8 years. I still have neuropathy in my hands and feet, but I havn't had my leg give out since the 1st week of January. i am going to start driving a car again. The crawling, burning, electrical, stabbing, sensations are rare now, where they used to be constant. Even the neuropathy is improving. I have some sensation returning to my hands and feet. I've lost 52 pounds. I no longer need blood pressure meds. In fact, I am off ALL prescription medicine! I look and feel 10 years younger. I can jump! I can move. And I owe it all to raw foods. And I know it was the raw food diet, because the effects are almost instant. I felt the changes before I lost the weight. Losing weight was just a pleasant side effect! All this in 2 months of raw food. I find I need more essential fatty acids, because when I stopped eating avocados and nuts, (because of the high fat content) some of the pain would return. We need EFA's to rebuild the myelin sheath. Also B vitamins, especially folate, B12 and B6. I also take vitamin D, Vit E, and omega 3's. Guest guest
Sally, I'm not yet 100% raw. I'm still transitioning. I noticed about two years ago that I was not eating anything that didn't come out of a box or some other kind of packaging, wasn't bought at a restaurant, or wasn't canned. I don't have a diagnosis but I've had chronic pain and fatigue for years. I have three slipped discs in my lower back, and I suffer from migraines. Just transitioning from 0% to now consistently 50% raw has made a huge difference for me, so I am looking forward to the benefits as I continue to work towards 100% raw. Guest guest
Thanks for the response to those of you who have done so. I am so tired of dragging down my children and husband and hope that this change will be the answer. Glad it is working for you!
