Guest guest
can someone pleas tell me what I did wrong and then how to do it right! I wanted to sprout 2 cups of raw chickpeas so I could make some raw hummas. I put the chick peas in a bowl of water and soaked them. The only result I got was a slimy mess after 1 1/2 days! I was rinsing them several times a day, but instead of them sprouting they just got slimy and smelled bad so I tossed them. Where did I go wrong and what are the correct steps? Should I be letting them sit without water? Refrigerate? Sprout in cool water, cold water, warm water? HELP! LOL!!!!!!! What are the most popular cars? Guest guest
Sherry, Soak the chick peas in cool water for 12 hours. Rinse well and drain. Thereafter, rinse twice a day. They'll be ready in 2 to 3 days, with 1/2 inch tails. Do not let them sit in water after the initial 12 hours, just keep moist, at room temperature. And it's better to spread them out somewhat rather than bunched up and crowded in a jar. Refrigerate after sprouted for storage. Guest guest
I ususlly sprout by soaking the beans in water about 8-12 hours then drain them (I use a half gallon jar with a plastic mesh lid) drain it, sit (at a tilt) upside down and rinse every 12 hours until the beans sprout... They ha;ve to be thoroughly drained with good circulation... I've had good luck the past 20 years... Do not leave them in the water to soak it makes a discusting mess.. Guest guest
H-m-m-m-m-m, I've never had any problem sprouting chikpeas . . . a few things come to mind. did you have a lid on the container? maybe they couldn't " breathe " You said you were rinsing them? Maybe it was the volume of chickpeas. Try soaking them in 2 or 3 different containers. Did you have them soaking the entire time? After soaking overnight (once they have " plumped up " ) they just have to be kept moist...by rinsing. (more often if it is warm or hot) Maybe they drowned? Soak them overnight, rinse, and let set damp...rinse several times. then refrigerate. They'll sprout tails in the refrigerator. There's also 2 more possibilities... The chick peas were old, stale, not fresh. Had been exposed to exessive heat before you purchased them. The chickpeas had been irradiated. (a terrible practice, which is being used far too much, IMHO) Try again with a fresh batch. maybe make a test with a tablespoon or so of chickpeas, to see if they will sprout for you... If it works, try larger quantities. windflower jan Sherry <dobeythehouseelf wrote: can someone pleas tell me what I did wrong and then how to do it right!
