Guest guest
What *I* need to come up with is a way of detoxing that does not involve an extended fast. I'm on meds for my heart that ain't friendly to the idea of fasting period, bet it water, juice, or " lemonade " . I'm doing a one day water fast at the moment and my doc ain't too thrilled about even that. LOL Does anyone have any suggestions on detoxing without fasting? Guest guest
Hi, I did a Ejuva body cleansing program. It's a herbal based body cleansing program. It's done in four phases. The first phase is to take one dose of herbs without doing any fast i.e. continue your regular diet. This does very slow cleanse. The second phase is to take out a breakfast and replace it with another dose of herbs. This increases the speed of cleanse. There is third & fourth phase where you replace one meal each with a dose of hurbs which speeds up the cleanse even more. It's recommended in David Wolfe's book - Sunfood diet success system. It's available on the rawfood.com website. One can control the speed of cleanse as per presonal need. It's recommended that the people with blood pressure do a slower cleanse as it the detox increases blood pressure (as per David Wolfe in his book). The slow clease will take longer but it doesn't aggravate the condition - I understand your doc's position. Here is an excerpt from his book - During Detox, the blood pressure may increase as thick, soupy materials pass out of the lymph into the blood. This will pass over the time on a natural diet as the lymph & blood unburden themselves and normalize. An elevated blood pressure is caused by obstructions in the blood vessels, an increased thickness of the blood, and/or a constriction of the arteries due to stress, all of which cause the heart to work harder to push blood through the vessels. Nutritionally, the blood pressure can be quickly decreased by adding garlic blubs and onions into the diet. These foods help thin the blood so as to lower blood pressure. The Ejuva cleanse package is around $400. Hope this helps ! - Hemant. Noctaire <noctaire wrote: What *I* need to come up with is a way of detoxing that does not involve an extended fast. Guest guest
There are tons of ways to detox, but a water fast is probably the fastest and best. During a water fast you probably do not need any medications. If I took a blood pressure med. If I took blood pressure meds, it would lower my pressure too much. While I could go off the diuretic and BP pill, the beta blocker is another matter. Going cold turkey off those for more than a couple days can lead to a rather unfortunate final conclusion. Guest guest
I haven't ever gotten up the nerve to fast. I've been eating raw for more than eight months now and have had some detox symptoms but not many (my hair fell out briefly and I had a lot of mucus drainage). I believe that cleaning up my diet and eating good raw food with 80% carbs, not more than 10% fat on average, and 6-10% protein cleared out most of my problem areas. My skin is clearer, my hair is growing back in and I have lots of energy. A fast would have probably made it happen sooner but I'm chicken. As for the cleanse methods, if I can't make myself fast, I sure can't go through a cleanse. I did used to do a gallbladder cleanse every few months but it isn't a sure thing that it works, plus it would take three days to do it and it was a traumatic experience for my body. I would experience chest pains frequently when I was on vegetarian SAD. I don't know if they were because of my heart, my gallbladder, or indigestion because I never told a doctor about them. I haven't had any since except for once when I ate a lot of fatty raw food. For me, I believe that a good, nutritious raw food diet is the answer. Good luck! I was actually quite surprised at the effects of just water fasting for 1 day. Over the coming week, I'm going to work more raw foods into my diet. I'm considering doing a weekly water fast since a single day doesn't freak the doctor out and the effects were substantial. Hopefully the combination of that with more raw foods will do the job of detoxing over time. James

Guest guest
It seems you are in need of a detox. The more symptoms you have the more the need to cleanse. Saying you CAN'T do it is a cop out. Guest guest
Unfortunately, the big issue with my meds is the coreg. They've done studies, trying to get people off the coreg and they tend to have rather high mortality rates even after stepping people down over several months. There's got to be some way to cleanse without going totally off all solids, even if it takes longer. <Sigh>
Guest guest
Hi, Robert & Chloey, It's true, I may need to detox. Anything longer than a three day fast needs to be done under supervision. I have to work to support myself so a fast lasting more than a weekend would be impossible at this point even if it were the thing I wanted to do most in the world. There are things I CAN do and one of them is eat the best food I can get (which isn't a huge variety in the winter) and enjoy it. And reap the rewards of being healthier than I've ever been before.
