Guest guest
Hello All, Information regarding sprouted beans and chickpeas is just so controversial... For example, David's eating for beauty disgraces the power of sprouted beans, chickpeas, and the like. Alissa's book highly recommends sprouted chickpeas such as her hummus... And still others say that sprouted beans and chickpeas are indigestible and you HAVE TO at least boil them to eat... I really LOVE beans especially chickpeas, but for this amount of different opinions, i am lost. I wonder how you eat them if you eat beans and chickpeas... Thank you so much allison
Guest guest
Good morning, Allison, I love chickpeas, too, so I bought some and sprouted them. I followed a recipe I found online for raw hummus and it was terrible. I ended up throwing it out. The sprouted beans/peas have a strong " beany " taste that I don't care for. You might. I have decided that I'll plant the chickpeas in my garden in the spring. I understand that fresh chickpeas are very good. It will take awhile but I'll find out for myself if that's true. I don't know if this helps or not but it's my experience. Have a good day! Guest guest
I make a raw hummas that everyone who has tried it so far has loved it, I even have a request to bring some to a dinner this week. BUT...I find that with raw hummas, you need to add seasoning to it. I add a lot of fresh herbs and lots of garlic and pepper. I love it and will continue to enjoy it (in moderation--of coarse) just my two cents on the subject.... jerushy1944 <no_reply > wrote: Good morning, Allison, I love chickpeas, too, so I bought some and sprouted them. Guest guest
Hi Allison, I love my sprouts! I sprout adzuki beans, mung beans, green peas, and chickpeas. I use everything but the chickpeas as fillings for wraps or toppers on salads and such. The chickpeas I like to blend into raw hummus.. yum! I've read a couple of different things on beans and they have all said to stay away from kidney beans, black beans, soybeans, and others. Pretty much the ones I sprout are the only ones recommended. I've not had any adverse reactions and I'm fairly sensitive to such, I have a hard time with very rich foods. Guest guest
Hi Taevia, How do you sprout your green peas? Do you have to use soil? I love pea sprouts and would appreciate knowing how you grow them. Thanks! Love and light, Jennifer _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of T. M. Guest guest
Hey Jennifer, I just sprout them like you do anything else. They take longer than most of the sprouts, but then the ones I have are a fairly good sized pea. I enjoy them quite a bit and so do my parrots. Guest guest
Hi Taevia, One more question: How long do you soak the dried peas for, before starting the rinsing/draining phase? Guest guest
Hi Jennifer, I soak the peas for 24 hours, however the book I have on sprouting says to soak them for 8 hours. I've heard of people saying that you can oversoak a sprout. I cannot speak to that as I've always soaked my sprouts 12 to 24 hours and never had any issues.
