Guest guest
(I'm resenting this because i don't think you received it) Tommie, Sorry I called you Jerushy (good guess huh..lol). I don't mind you being " technical " ...I'm glad you explained where you're coming from. I had to laugh at your comment, " you sound like someone who has been eating raw for a long time " and at the same time - I feel humbled. While been around " health " for a long time, thanks to my dad, I have not been eating raw long. And I have not been eating 100% raw, but as close as I can. Bananas are healthy, and perfect for smoothies, but not more than one or two a day (and maybe less, like every other day). The guys that advocate 5 or 6 bananas a day are sorely mistaken and very misleading! Too much at one time will cause your blood sugar levels to spike. And if you have any problems (like me) with an overgrowth of Candida (too much bad bacteria in body), they should be avoided all together (I just try to only have a few in smoothies per week). Since you asked, a day may look like this: Morning: 2 tall glasses of water upon arising A Tall glass of grapefruit/green drink( freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice, stevia to taste, and 1T super green formula) Smoothie ( " bunny spice " : 1C of carrot juice, I C of raw almond milk, fresh ginger juice to taste, and 2 C of bananas. This is enough for 2 servings, so don't drink all at once ;-)) or almond milk/fruit smoothie. ( " Raw food, Real world " by Matthew and Sarma has lots of amazing recipes!) Big salad ( maybe some of the following: Spring mix greens, cilantro, small handful of fresh mint leaves, avocado, cucumbers, tomatoes, nuts, etc) Mid-Afternoon / Evening A piece of fruit for snack Raw crackers Salad (if I didn't have one in earlier) Something non-raw such as cooked Salmon. Raw ice cream or some other snack I realize I need to add more dark green/veggies and spouts to my diet. I drink probably 10 tall glasses of water in a day. Ask if you need me to clarify anything I said that may have not made sense. Try not to worry about doing everything " right. " ( Food is only a part of health...my relationship with God and others is very important part too). Give yourself time to learn from other/books/ and what your body is " telling " you. I'm still learning too and i don't always know what " theories " are right. All I know is " balance " is important...not eating too much of anything or eating too extreme. Good job for trying to learn as much as you can. Hope i gave you a few helpful tips........ Jen Brings words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with Mail. Out of curiosity, I put most of the foods you mentioned in the quantities you specified (and I ballparked it on the conservative side where you didn't) into www.fitday.com. I didn't include the crackers because I didn't know the ingredients. I guessed at the ice cream. The day's calories came to a little over 1700 which isn't bad at all. The thing is, the fat content is 53% and protein is 14%. If I cut the avocado by half, the calories go down to less than 1600 but the fat is still 50%. That's more than the government allowance. Do you suppose that some of your candida problem may come from too much fat? Since I couldn't do justice to the ice cream, I took it out and put in ice milk. It still just cut the fat to 49% which upped the protein to 15%. I'm no expert but the fat is still too much. I need to go eat! Guest guest
HERE'S MY REPLIES: Have you read any of Doug Graham's materials? NOT REALLY, BUT I'VE HEARD OF HIM He has been eating raw for many years and is an amazing person. OK, MAYBE EATING THAT WAY MAY WOULD WORK FOR YOU. I STILL THINK THAT IS TOO MANY IF I WANT TO HAVE A " BALANCED " DIET. BUT IF IT WORKS FOR YOU, GREAT! Too much at one time will cause your blood sugar levels to spike. This is true if I were a diabetic but I'm not so they don't give me a problem. THIS IS NOT ALL ABOUT BEING DIABETIC OR NOT. IN GENERAL, I HAVE READ AND HEARD OVER THE YEARS THAT TOO MANY BANANAS IS NOT HEALTHY. MAYBE YOU'RE AN EXCEPTION. I'D STILL TRY NOT TO FOCUS AN EATING TOO MUCH OF ONE FOOD OR ELSE YOU COULD DEVELOP AN ALLERGY TO IT. And if you have any problems (like me) with an overgrowth of Candida (too much bad bacteria in body), they should be avoided all together (I just try to only have a few in smoothies per week). Once again, I don't so this situation doesn't apply to me. THAT'S WONDERFUL ITS NOT A PROBLEM FOR YOU! A Tall glass of grapefruit/green drink( freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice, stevia to taste, and 1T super green formula) DRINKING THIS WILL GIVE YOU ENERGY! What is the super green formula? CHECK OUT WWW.gardenoflife.com. IT SHOULD LIST THE INGREDIENTS. JUST SO YOU KNOW, THE GRAPEFRUIT/GREEN DRINK IS REALLY SUPPOSE TO BE MADE WITH BLUE-GREEN ALGAE (FLAKES OR LIQUID). oneluckyduck. com or ancientsuninc.com should carry it. READ ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF BLUE-GREEN ALGAE AT WW.E3LIVE.COM. IT'S SUPPOSE TO CALM THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, INSPIRE FOCUS AND INCREASED ATTENTION SPAN. I HAVE YET TO BUY SOME AND TRY IT. I don't care for stevia. What about using agave nectar instead? AGAVE NECTAR IS FINE TO USE INSTEAD! > Smoothie ( " bunny spice " : 1C of carrot juice, I C of raw almond milk, fresh ginger juice to taste, and 2 C of bananas. This is enough for 2 servings, so don't drink all at once ;-)) or almond milk/fruit smoothie. ( " Raw food, Real world " by Matthew and Sarma has lots of amazing recipes!) This would cause me a problem because of combining nuts and fruit. I THOUGHT IT WOULD CAUSE A PROBLEM TO HAVE NUTS AND FRUIT TOGETHER, BUT IT HASN'T. I use whole foods and don't juice except for citrus. THAT'S FINE. JUICING/ AND SMOOTHIES CAN BE HELPFUL BECAUSE YOUR BODY CAN ASSIMILATE THE NUTRITION WITHOUT THE HARD WORK DIGESTING YOUR FOOD. JUST A THOUGHT. Big salad ( maybe some of the following: Spring mix greens, cilantro, small handful of fresh mint leaves, avocado, cucumbers, tomatoes, nuts, etc) I couldn't do this because of combining fats from both avocado and nuts. I suppose I could leave off one or the other. THAT'S FINE. YEP! > Mid-Afternoon / Evening > > A piece of fruit for snack > Raw crackers > Salad (if I didn't have one in earlier) > Something non-raw such as cooked Salmon. Eeeeewwww! I'm a lifelong vegetarian. Never ate anything that once walked, swam, crawled, or flew. LOL, THAT'S FINE. I ACTUALLY GREW UP IN A FAMILY THAT BELIEVES IF YOU DO NOT EAT EVEN HEALTHY MEAT/FISH/EGGS, THAN YOU WOULDN'T GET ENOUGH PROTEIN. I'M PULLING AWAY FROM THAT AND HARDLY EATING IT ANY MORE. What kind of raw crackers? THERE'S MANY RECIPES OUT THERE. LOOK AROUND ON SOME RAW FOOD SITES. YOU NEED A DEHYDRATOR IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE. MY FAVORITE ARE: 3c CORN KERNELS LG HANDFUL OF FRESH CILANTRO 1 OR TWO YELLOW OR RED BELL PEPPERS 3/4 GOLDEN FLAXSEED, FINELY GROUND(ABOUT 1 CUP) 1/2 HEMP SEEDS 1 OR TWO JALAPENO PEPPERS 1 OR TWO t GROUND CHILI POWER 1 OR TWO T SEA SALT 2 T GROUND CUMIN ADD 2 T OF WATER OR LIME JUICE (THROW ONIONS OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE) PROCESS IN FOOD PROCESSOR, SPREAD ON TEFLEX-LINED SHEETS, AND DEHYDRATE AT 115 F FOR 6 HOURS(CAN BE MORE OR LESS TIME). FLIP ON TRAYS AND PEEL AWAY LINERS, AND DEHYDRATE MORE HOURS(6 OR SO UNTIL DRY) Don't know the ingredients here so it may/may not be a good combination for me to have with the fruit. I ALREADY POSTED THE TWO ICE CREAMS. I CAN RE-POST IF YOU NEED. DO YOU LIKE COCONUTS? THESE ARE USED IN MOST ICE CREAMS I'm glad you included your relationships with God and others. Mine are very important to me, too. I'M GLAD WE'RE ON THE SAME PAGE! HEATH IS NOT THE ULTIMATE! PEACE WITH JESUS AND WHAT HE HAS FOR YOUR LIFE IS! I DON'T THINK " GOVERNMENT ALLOWANCE " IS RIGHT. WHAT DOES THE GOVERNMENT KNOW?! LOOK AT THE FOOD PYRAMID - BREADS AND PASTAS IS WHAT WE'RE SUPPOSE TO BE EATING THE MOST OF. DOES IT SOUND LIKE THEY HAVE OUR BEST INTEREST AT HEART?! ACTUALLY, I'M NOT INTO COUNTING CALORIES. Do you suppose that some of your candida problem may come from too much fat? NO, I WAS BORN 9 WEEKS PREMATURE AND WAS GIVEN ANTIBIOTICS SEVERAL TIMES IN MY LIFE (THE FIRST ONE BEING AFTER I WAS BORN). THAT'S WAS ENOUGH TO MESS UP MY SYSTEM. Since I couldn't do justice to the ice cream, I took it out and put in ice milk. It still just cut the fat to 49% which upped the protein to 15%. I'm no expert but the fat is still too much. YOU COULD BE RIGHT. I DON'T HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT THAT'S FOR SURE! I need to go eat! GO AHEAD! I'LL TALK TO YOU LATER. ;-) Tommie
Guest guest
Let's try this again. I had a reply all ready and when I clicked on " send " it didn't go anywhere. Since IE doesn't cache pages, when I clicked on the back button, the text box was blank. WAHHHH! Since our messages are getting pretty long, I decided I'd start with a clean slate. Dr. Graham's site is www.foodnsport.com. He has an extensive FAQ at http://www.foodnsport.com/mambo2/index.php? option=com_content & task=view & id=14 & Itemid=65. I did a search and found your ice cream recipes and they do look yummy. I'm one of those unfortunate ones who doesn't have access to young coconut. I've had them twice in my life--once from Whole Foods in NYC and once from Wal*Mart in Orlando. I do have really raw cashews, though. I'll take my chances with bananas. At least I don't have a latex allergy! My remark about the government guidelines wasn't to give any validity to them. It was just to point out that the guidelines are too high by about three times and your intake is above that. Do you have an account on www.fitday.com? It's free. I understand about parents being concerned about their children not getting enough protein. My mother would cook big pots of beans and pans of cornbread, not realizing that beans and corn aren't a good combination. Oh, well! My daughter is calling in for our usual visit so I'd better go--again! Later! Tommie http://www.rawburchard.blogspot.com

Guest guest
Hi, Jen, This morning, I had the OJ, then waited for probably close to half an hour before I ate half a mango. I didn't have time to drink my smoothie before I left the house so I put it in a jar and brought it to work with me. That stretched breakfast out for a couple of hours. Then my break came an hour and a half or so after that. Lunch was an hour after break. It's kind of like grazing. I'm able to go several hours without eating until I get home. I've found that I don't get weak like I used to when I was eating cooked. The chili is two or three tomatoes, peeled and chunked up in the blender, with a little sea salt, cumin, chili powder, onion & garlic powder (all this is to taste). I turn the blender on with the knob on the lowest setting (I have a L'equip) and turn it up two or three times until everything is mixed but still chunky. It's GOOD. You can get fancy and stir in chopped celery, chopped yellow/orange/red sweet pepper, and chopped onion (corn would be good, too) but this is quick and easy. Bon appetit! Guest guest
Good morning, Robert, Yes, I believe that I'm in that group more than the others. I haven't completely made the transition to 811rv but I'm farther that way. There are some things that I need to clean up to be able to say that I'm firmly in that group. There are a lot of different variables when eating raw but the high carb/low fat/low protein works for me. I have seen so many people go about it with the belief that " as long as it's raw, it's okay " and " don't worry about fat " and they fail. My daughter is one of them. She was on a program that encouraged dehydrating, eating lots of nuts and seeds, free use of olive oil, and raw grains. She lasted for 34 days. Granted, this was supposed to be a transition phase, but she never was able to go beyond it because the foods she was eating encouraged cravings. Unless a person has enough calories (and sweet fruits are the most calorie dense foods while being low in fat) the cravings can be overwhelming. I am familiar with the teachings of some of the people you mentioned, though I haven't gone into them in depth. Who is to say what I will be eating this time next year? I have done well, so far, for more than eight months on 100% raw so I have no reason to believe that I won't continue to be healthy. If I do experience a breakdown on what I'm eating now, why can't I change it and go in a different direction? As long as it's working, I'll keep on eating what I'm eating. I do appreciate your concern. Until next time, Tommie http://www.rawburchard.blogspot.com rawfood , <rbwest01 wrote: > > I have read some of Doug's writings. The studies of Robert Young (The PH miracle), Cousins, MD, Paul Nison and many more are coming more and more to the conclusion that we need to eat/juice/blend a lot of dark leaf vegies and only a little fruit. And that we keep them very separate when eating. > > Ultimately blood tests will prove who is more correct. Hi Tommie, I find that this is what I was doing...thinkingn that as long as it was raw it was okay. How do you think people can move beyond this transition phase without triggering these cravings? I find without a lot of the foods you mentioned above I just don't feel satisfied.
Guest guest
Hello Tommy Yes, who knows where we are going to be tomorrow or next year. I still remember telling my wife that I would never be a raw fooder. Vegan is where it really is. The " others " are really weird and taking things to the extreme. And here I am. Funny. You need to do what feels comfortable for YOU I agree. I would only suggest this: If you can and want to do a dark field type blood test while on your current diet and then do one a month later with with a lot less emphasis on fruits and see what the results are. The only reason I write this is that when I spoke with Paul Nison last week in Las Vegas, He personally told me that several of her fruitarian friends are no longer with us. That is very saddening to me as we are all trying to achieve a certain level of health and are hopefully learning from each other. I really love fruit and would prefer to be a fruitarian, but when I read these things, I stick with my greens and have my fruits a little less than what I prefer. But, coming back to the beginning, who knows about the future, at the moment, I just cannot see my self as a total mono eater. That is fanatic?????? May be one day I will eat my words. Ha Ha. Guest guest
Hi, Jennifer, To keep the cravings down, you need to eat a lot of calories which is hard to do unless you eat fruit. That seems to be a problem with some of the members of the forum but that's the only thing that has worked for me. If you up the quantity of nuts, seeds, and avocados to get the calories, you are also increasing the fat which doesn't last for the long run. I mentioned my daughter's experience. She ate a lot of nuts during her little more than a month at 100% raw. She was always tired and got sick more than once. As soon as I learned about 811rv, I headed in that direction and have had few problems. My energy level is high and I've gone into other improvements in previous posts. For a 62 year old woman with hypothyroidism, I think I'm doing pretty well. Until next time, Tommie http://www.rawburchard.blogspot.com rawfood , " Jennifer Corris " <jencorris wrote: > > I have seen so many people go > >about it with the belief that " as long as it's raw, it's okay " > >and " don't worry about fat " and they fail. Guest guest
I can relate. When my daughter first told me about eating only raw food, I thought she was certifiable. I didn't think anyone could eat that way and still be in their right mind. It was insane. I studied about it, though not seriously, for over a year before I finally decided to give it a try. My daughter and her husband were going to do Alissa Cohen's 30 Day Challenge. When they were two days into it, I started it, too. I ate maybe 10% cooked the first four days and then went to 100% raw. At first, I was eating (I found out) around 900 calories a day with 45-50% fat. I was feeling lightheaded and spacy. When I started adding more fruit and cutting down on the nuts, seeds, and avocados, and adding more green leafy veggies, it was amazing how much better I felt. I've done a few mono-meals but I haven't progressed to the point where I do them all the time. Better go! It's almost my bedtime and I need all the beauty sleep I can get!
