Guest guest
I am going to start growing wheatgrass. I'm doing reseach now but I was wondering one quick thing. After it's been cut down will it grow back like lawn or do I have to start from scratch every time? It's grass so it grows back like lawn right? Guest guest
You can water it and put it in the sun or in your garden and let it grow back for a couple of times. I am actually experimenting with that myself. After I had it grow back in the tray in my kitchen, I put it in my garden box to see what would happen. Well, nothing so far. It has been a couple of months and it is still there. I like to see what the summer is going to do to it. Case in point (example) Have you ever known/seen some teenager who you may know who over the course of a " summer " or a few months actually grow 1 " or 3 " in height? Just a " burst " of growth? Well, that may not be a totally accurate example of the point I'm trying to make but in the first 7-10 days of the life of a blade of wheatgrass there is a point where the shoot (grass stem) splits, and it's been documented that it is best to wait till that time before you cut and juice the grass. As for waiting for it to grow again, I never have. I re-soak and plant. http://wiliweld.com/farm/ And for the process of growing the grass, here is how I do it. http://wiliweld.com/grow/grass.html -- Bill Schoolcraft <> http://wiliweld.com " If your life was full of nothing but sunshine, you would just be a desert. Thanks for the info. :-) So do I need to get new soil too or just dig up the roots and use the same soil or what? Thanks again. Oh yeah I was also wondering " about " how many ounces can I get out of a 11X21 tray if the grass is about 7 inches tall? Minnie

For my " first " water I used water with 'liquid kelp' in it, the water afterwards, just plain. Not too much liquid kelp, just a splash. I've also used no liquid kelp too, grass seems a bit sweeter. I'm seen wheat grass grown with no soil and just a 1/2 " of soil. The soil in those cases are just the 'medium' to carry the nutrients similar to hydroponics. I'm a bit old fashioned and use about 1-1/2 " of soil, just buy a bag of potting soil, organic preferably or you will smell manure if it gets hot. What I mean is after my first crop of wheatgrass do I use that used- wheatgrass-soil again or do I dump the used-wheatgrass-soil? If I use the soil again do I dig out the wheatgrass roots or use it as a mulch? Thanks for all your helpful tips and thanks so much for your time!! :-) Minnie

(A) Dump the 'mat' of roots. (B) I have found it too thick with roots to use it for mulch.
