Organic potting soil? (wheatgrass growing)

I want to get a similar organic potting soil according to The

Wheatgrass Book, 50% peat moss, 40% organic top soil, and 10%

vermiculite or pearlite. When I called one place and asked

about " organic " potting soil. They said yes and then said manure was in

it. Is manure okay to be in organic soil? I 'thought' the book (can't

find it at the moment) recommended organic so there would be no manure

smell implying there is no manure in organic soil. In the proportions

above is there manure in any of that stuff? Plus would manure elements

grow into my wheatgrass? I am hoping to get it locally but if I can't

and have to order it can someone recommend a website with good prices

please?

Minnie,

If you go to your local garden depot and read some labels, you will

find some soil with no animal manure. Although in real life, from

the beginnings of time, " droppings " have been a part of all soil

management per-se', don't worry too much about it for it is grass and

it will actually grow itself with the slightest chance.

My farm has been thriving, as I, with standard organic potting soil.

I have also stopped adding earthworm castings too for most organic

potting soils have them in it.

Thanks so much Bill for all of your help so far. You are very

knowledgeable and helpful!

Okay I have done some preliminary soil shopping. Here's what I found

at my local stores. All are organic.

EB Stone, Seed Starting Mix, 12 quart $5.49, Canadian sphagnum peat

moss, perlite, dolomite lime (Ph adjuster), & gypsum.

Uni-Gro, Starter Mix, 12 quart $4.99, Canadian sphagnum peat moss,

vermiculite, pumice, forest products, perlite, bone meal, cottonseed

meal, alfalfa meal, & worm castings.

Uni-Gro Potting Soil, 4 quart $2.49, forest products, peat Moss

vermiculite, pumice, bone meal, cottonseed meal, alfalfa meal, &

earthworm castings.

Are any of these good? Why and why not? Thanks! :-)

Minnie, God bless all your effort. Had I not done all you have done

" AND " then some, I would not be advising you to keep it simple.

I stopped using castings because I put " Liquid Kelp " in my

" soak-water " for the seeds.

This is " not " the brand I use but I buy it in bulk and place a

capfull in the soak.
