Guest guest
Ok, firt let me introduce my self. My name is Allegra. I'm 18 years old and will be attending College starting May 15, going for a masters in Occupational Therapy. I have been training horses for several years, along with designing websites. I have 1 horse(Boccus), 1 dog(Fenris), and 1 parrot (Max). I'm Eclectic Pagan and am involved in many community projects based around Paganism and religious rights. I've also been drawn heavily to buddhist practices recently. I've been kind of bothered by the large number of obese people in my particular religous community... our bodies are sacred to us, just as the earth/nature is, yet some many don't seem to take care of their bodies and eat junk. :'( But that's not really why I'm here. This is about me isn't it, about being healthier, about healing my body and spirit? My body is very important to me, and I want to take care of it. (Quote: " My body is my temple " ) I tried eating raw a while ago, a practice which my mother half heartedly embraced, while still reminding me that " dead people don't have high blood pressure either " and such remarks. I gave up when I became too weak to work with my horse and people started telling me I was being very grouchy. - Ok, so their exact wording wasn't so nice. - I live in Michigan, meaning : Winter. I'm also very broke at the moment. We have a garden, with a nice fence that the squirels go over and the groundhogs dig under to eat ALL of what we plant. (I live in the middle of 40 acre's of woods.) I want to eat RAW but, am a little discouraged by circumstances. (Plus I love a nice hot soup......) Ya, that's about it. - Allegra
Guest guest
Allegra, Hello and Welcome! I don't particularly have any advice for you as I'm rather new here myself, but I thought I'd say hello! Guest guest
Hi Allegra I know where you are coming from. I am part of the pagan community here in the UK and can not figure the lack of care people take over themselves. There is at least one other that has similar interests but we don't often discus raw food and natural nutrition in that group - very heavy drinkers not receptive. I have one foot in the Buddhist community too and would like to see all three merge one day. If you ran out of energy then you might have been missing something in your diet or maybe got withdrawal symptoms or a severe detox. Have you read anything on transitioning from cooked to raw ? Guest guest
Thank you for the reply. I have read numerous articles regarding transitioning from cooked to raw, but didn't really follow so well. *blush* I think I will definitly do some re-reading. Of course if any one has advice as far as what has worked well for them I would be more than glad to hear. Right now I eat about 25% raw. I eat mostly-only organic foods, which is where price starts to get to me in the winter. (I hope to grow a garden this year if I can keep the pests out of it... they eat every thing we plant before it gets ripe!) I just started eating Vegitarian due to a suggetion given, strangely enough, by a spirit guide. Today I had homemade veggie stew(cooked) for breakfast and dinner, and fresh veggies and fruit for lunch. So I've got a ways to go. Oh ya, I have problems digesting oily foods, so nuts tend to make me sick to my stomach. The oilier the nuts the worse. But I LOVE Nuts, and am afraid that I'm missing out on valuable nutrients not eating them. Any thoughts? - Allegra rawfood , " Kirk " <jlcgull wrote: > > Hi Allegra > I know where you are coming from. Guest guest
Hi Allegra, I too have 'issues' digesting nuts UNLESS they are soaked first and/or slightly sprouted. Sesame (tahini) and sunflower seeds (soaked and made into pate) are really easy to digest and pate rolled up in a lettuce leaf for lunch is yummy. Guest guest
I love a nice fruit smoothie in the morning, I add the cacao nibs and the Kola nut powder and wow, what an energy booster. Kola nut has natural caffeine in it and the cacao nibs help with my chocolate craving and really goes good in the smoothie with the bananas and strawberries! Its not hard to switch, you just have to make it work for you. There are many many ways to deteer garden pests....We had a garden every year and there isnt a pest I havent out witted....which ones do you have the most trouble with? And....do you own your own home? Can you make changes to the garden area? and...is money really tight? I can help you get past some of these pests, and your garden will pay for itself...I just want to make sure you want the help and can make a few simple changes to your garden area.... Just let me know if you would like a few tips...LOL...I am no genius, but I have fumbled my way around a bit! I learned a lot by trial and error....mostly error..LOL! GOod luck and keep up the transition to raw foods, if you can have your own garden, you will love raw foods!!!! Peace... Sherry Allegra <useyourthorns wrote: Thank you for the reply. Guest guest
Hello, I've gotta get my blender from my mum's. Well I don't own, but am able to use the garden if I wish. I live in the middle of 40 acres of woods, so I get about every kind of pest you can think of. There is a very good fence around the garden that keeps the rabbits out, but the groundhogs just dig under it, and the squirels climb over it. They eat EVERYTHING. (Well they don't manage to defeat the red raspberries! But those SCARE me.) There is a pear tree in the garden too, so putting a cover over it is unlikely. (Like chicken mesh, thats what I did with my old garden. The black plastic stuff.) My budget is not great right now, hopefully things improve. (Lots of work comming in, but I just started a new job and don't get paid for 2 weeks so I'm burning through my savings account at the moment.) I've been contacted by people wanting me to design art for them (heaven knows why, I'm not that good.), sell their horses for them, and I make staffs on the side. I've just been so busy chasing after consitant money to do these things. (Today is an exception b/c we got 300 jobs and my b/f is still putting them into the computer.) - Allegra rawfood , Sherry <dobeythehouseelf wrote: > > I love a nice fruit smoothie in the morning, I add the cacao nibs and the Kola nut powder and wow, what an energy booster.
