Guest guest
> What are your shoes made of? My shoes are made from synthetic materials. The down side is that the process to make synthetic shoes are not environmentally friendly. However, they are still *less *environmentally damaging than the processes used to turn the hides of dead animals into leather. > Do you wear silk? Never. They may just be caterpillars (silk worm pupae), but I can't, in good conscience, wear something that came from a process in which some being is boiled alive. These are interesting questions... why are they being asked? Suzy

Oh, I just thought I would ask a thought-provoking question. I've met lots of people who never stopped to think about wool, silk, or leather in their veganism. The other day, I was looking at a shoe catalog which had a " vegan shoes " page, and I thought I would just throw out the question. It is kind of hard to find vegan shoes if you cannot wear sneakers to work. Margaret
Guest guest
I think I'm gonna look up " vegan shoes " and see what I come up with. I thought maybe this is where you were going when you asked the question. I do not wear leather shoes and haven't in ages. I started getting more conscious about animal products a little over 2 years ago so really started looking to see what had what in it. I may not be 100% vegan at this time (still consume fish & an egg on occasion) but I am learning more and I realize more and more each day what are used in the products we use. I have never been a fan of silk so I am thinking I may have never owned anything with silk in it. I am a major fan of 100% cotton. ~ Laura Margaret Gamez <mgamez1 wrote: Suzy wrote > > > What are your shoes made of? > > Do you wear silk? > These are interesting questions... why are they being asked? Guest guest
About 10 - 12 years ago I was a member of EarthSave. One of the speakers during that time mentioned that the process of developing film used a bovine by product. Don't remember what it was or if there was an alternative, but I've always wondered about this. Now we have digital cameras, but is this bovine product in the shiny part of the photo paper? Don't know, but gives me one more thing to think about! Dang it's hard. Shari

They have a huge selection of shoes composed of manmade materials, but I've been able to find them at other stores, as well. (Not easily, of course, and usually the shoes to which I'm most attracted are leather and that's annoying!) I usually check Payless online before I go to their store. Then, there are a few online stores that offer vegan shoes (but that depends on how you feel about buying shoes you can't try on): http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/ http://VeganShoes.com http://www.mooshoes.com/ http://www.veganmart.com http://www.veganline.com http://ethicalwares.com To name a few... I think there are a ton more. And Zappos has a way to search for vegetarian shoes, as well. (http://www.zappos.com) Laura's idea of Googling " vegan shoes " was a good one, but not all companies list their manmade shoes as " vegan. " Often, the key words necessary are " all manmade materials. " (I usually try " man made " - two words, and " manmade " - one word, as they are listed both ways, I've found.) Guest guest
MOOSHOES IS A WELL KNOWN BRAND. They probably also advertise on www.vegsource.com Also if you are close to a Wholefood store they sell Earth Vegan brand, we highly recommend these. Not cheap though. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, It used to be that the vegan shoe selection was very poor, but now there are lots of companies and lots of dressier shoes available. Check out (if you're interested): http://www.mooshoes.com/ http://www.ethicalwares.com/range.htm http://www.alternativeoutfitters.com/ http://www.veganessentials.com/ Blessings, Jennifer _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Margaret Gamez Sunday, March 19, 2006 11:30 AM rawfood [Raw Food] what are your shoes made of? Guest guest
Thanks, Robert: Our Whole Foods stores in New York City are very glitzy not very natural stores. They don't even sell beans and seeds for sprouting. Moo Shoes is in town. I am going to go down there and check them out. Margaret rawfood , <rbwest01 wrote: > > MOOSHOES IS A WELL KNOWN BRAND.
