Guest guest
Anyone have any recipes using chia seed? I have a pound and I have no clue what to do with it. I've searched the WWW and found that it has to be soaked but there aren't any recipes as such. It's supposed to be very nutritious. Thanks, everyone! Guest guest
I just soak it and add it to a smoothie or eat it. It's supposed to be used like a filler, I think. I've got a couple tablespoons out in the kitchen I bought just to try. It's not too bad mixed with something else and doesn't seem to give me too much flatulence! shari
Guest guest
How much do you use at a time? Yes, very nutritious, I put a tablespoon or two in my smoothie in the morning. Make sure that you blend it within 5 minutes of putting the chia seeds into the liquid you are using for chia seeds will actually, when left alone in water, turn into a gelatin of sorts. I have read two books about it, not really books but info pamphlets. Native Americans used it extensively in their endurance feats before the pillage started. http://www.living-foods.com/articles/chia.html http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1583940405/sr=8-1/qid=1142824914/ref=pd_bbs_1/1\ 02-0839081-1368153?_encoding=UTF8 -- Bill Schoolcraft | http://wiliweld.com " If your life was full of nothing but sunshine, you would just be a desert. Guest guest
Hi Tommie, I am new to the group, this is actually my first post. I joined last night. I have been dabbling in raw for a year or so now and have been almost all raw for a few months. I read on another board that chia seeds can be used like flax seeds and actually can be substituted in raw cracker recipes. Apparently they get like flax when soaked and would hold the crackers together like flax does. I have not had a chance to try them though because I have not found them anywhere yet. Guest guest
Thanks for using your first post on this subject! Do you know how much it would take to " exchange " the flax seeds for chia? I'll have to try it when I get through with my Green Cleanse. Day one is down! Guest guest
They didn't say how much to substitute for flax. Someone on the board came across chia seeds and the group speculated that they could be used instead of flax since they get gooey like flax when soaked. I think. I would try a recipe using the same amount and see how it goes. I just started a spring cleanse with a group from my yoga center. There are 15 of us. Guest guest
Yikes! Substituting 1:1 would result in the most expensive crackers in the raw world! I think I'll just use flax...
