Guest guest
Hi, my name is Heather and I am a lurker. I always am so hesitant to post to any of my groups because I don't want to sound stupid. Here it goes... I always seem to be looking for the perfect way to eat for health. It is so confusing to read all the different theories about nutrition. I start off my day with fruit, I love fruit. In fact when I was a child, I think I lived off of fruit in the summer time. I prefer veges in the afternoon. I have a hard time not eating cooked stuff in the evening. Having to cook for my family does not help either. I am falling into the trap of picking at my kids food. I feel like I have become addicted to food because the more confused I get, the more I eat - anything! I know there are those people out there who say we must just respect our bodies, and I believe we should but much of the time it goes alot deeper than that. Does anyone have a simple plan for beginning? Between the food combining and the nutrition guidelines, I don't even know where to start. Any help, suggestions, experiences would be greatly appreciated as I enjoy reading all of your insights. Thanks so much, Heather
Guest guest
Hi Heather, Yes it can be very confusing. One thing I like to state: If you eat fruit do not eat it together with anything else. (Mostly true) Waite at least 45 minutes before eating something different. Guest guest
Heather, It sounds like you struggle with it about like I do. I have four children and a husband, and none of them are remotely interested in going completely raw. My husband is in the military, so he's not home all of the time. When it's just me and the kids, I can often convince them to have fruit-days; but here lately the fruits we can find aren't that great. But I don't like everything they like to eat, so I'm trying to make those things more often rather than things I know I like to eat. For example, I don't like to eat PBJ sandwiches or grilled cheese sandwiches, so I'll make those for them for lunch. I can't eat pancakes or waffles so I'll make them pancakes for breakfast. That helps. One of the hardest things is that my husband and I have had a rough relationship. We're hanging in there, and trying to do some of our old favorite things again...but one of those things was cooking together. Spaghetti with home-made sauce. Going out to eat at one particular pizza place...things like that. Interestingly...when I started bringing home mushrooms and sprouts and things for my salads I found out that Paul loves sprouts and mushrooms! Anyways...(HUGS) I don't really have any advice for you, but just keep trying. I think part of my problem is that I have planned out the kids' meals and what to make when DH is home, but I haven't been planning out what to make for myself. I haven't really tried any recipes either. So I need to get my rear in gear, make out a list and get up to Whole Foods. Guest guest
Beth, hang in there. The military comes with its own set of stress, been there done that. Just keep focused and do the best you can with the diets and finding good healthy things for all to eat. Welcome. Trish Burrows sunflowers2 P.O. Guest guest
Heather, My advice as a fellow newbie is keep it simple! Don't worry about food combining right now, simply eat raw. If you want fruit and nuts and it doesn't make you feel bad, eat them. If you want to mix up some sprouted grains, fruit, nuts and cinnamon to make raw 'cookies' to dehydrate, then do it! If you stay raw your body will start to guide you to what are the best choices for you. Everyone of us is different, just keep it simple and raw at first and you'll do fine! I love this website for a resource as well, the owner of it suggests the same thing I did to you, it is where I started! www.rawfoodtalk.com Taevia On Mar 19, 2006, at 8:00 PM, iluvemypetz wrote: > Hi, my name is Heather and I am a lurker. Guest guest
Hi Beth, thanks for the encouragement. I think I stress out in the evening when the kids are home and that is a large part of my problem. Oddly enough, I was in the Navy for 7 years, ending in 1995. I was young and single and could not imagine what dependent wives went through - and you have four children. You are a brave woman, I hope you have lots of support...and if you need some from cyberspace.... Sincerely, Heather elizabeth roberts <mamabethnc wrote: Heather, It sounds like you struggle with it about like I do. Guest guest
Relationships are so tied to food, it's scary. My sons don't know what to do with me any more since I'm eating raw. I've tried taking some of the heavier recipes that I hardly ever eat at home when I'd go to visit. My older son will try them, sometimes, but you'd think my younger son is convinced that they had live bugs in them or something. He prefers his worse than SAD diet. I don't say anything about the way they eat and I hope that the improvement in my health will speak for itself. We hardly even talk any more. My daughter is the one that got me started on raw food so she knows where I'm coming from. We visit on a regular basis but it hurts when I know that the way I eat is a stumbling block where my sons are concerned. I'm not going to start eating cooked again to change it, though. We need to band together and pray our way through this! Guest guest
Hi Tommie, You're right, the social aspect of being raw is often the hardest. My husband and I got tired of eating at non-raw restaurants and started trying to come up with other ways to be with our extended family. We thought maybe we could just go to each other's houses and chat or take a walk in a park together. I had kind of warned my mom that we were staying away from restaurants. At one point she told me, " I really miss eating with you. Couldn't we please eat together? " It made me realize that my choice was causing her some pain. We have gone out to eat together since then. My husband and I have big salads, and even with all our explaining to the waiter, we end up with some non-raw ingredients by mistake. I'm just doing it for my mom. At the same time, I'm lowering my expectations around what I'll end up with to eat at a restaurant, I'm getting better at ordering at restaurants, and I'm working on other ideas for things we can do together (besides eating). The gist of this is that it's painful for everyone involved, because change is stressful. I think that it does get better over time though. Thanks for sharing. Probably everyone on this list can relate to your post.
