Guest guest
I was bringing salads from home to work, but now our refrigerator is gone and I need some ideas on what I can bring with me that won't go bad in about an 8-10 hour period. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
Guest guest
Do you have a cooler you can take to work? I always used a cooler to keep my lunch in when I worked. My DH does that now cause he does not have a frig that is accessible. ~ Laura ********************************** Message: 16 Mon, 27 Mar 2006 20:21:41 -0000 " springsilvermoon " <springsilvermoon how to eat raw food when i am at work I was bringing salads from home to work, but now our refrigerator is gone and I need some ideas on what I can bring with me that won't go bad in about an 8-10 hour period. Guest guest
Am I the only person who has managed to keep a salad from 7am until I could eat it at 6pm without it going bad? Wow! I guess I should share my secrets. I take sprouts in a separate bag (I throw a mix of whatever I have into a baggie or a container - whatever is available) the sprouts will just keep on growing -- remember? they are live!!! they will be very crunchy. Just mix them into your other salad ingredients, and voila! (I often even pack some sprouts for munchies (I like to munch out on handfuls of lentil sprouts, lately) I put my grated up vegetables (usually leftovers from the night before) and whatever else, into a container. Since the vegetables are grated up, they don't care if they have the salad dressing on them. (sometimes I put salad dressing into a separate container, a la " on the side " ) Even leafy vegetables work for this if you run them through a food processor... they don't die or wilt before you get to them. Kale and collards really seem to like sitting in the salad dressing for hours (I've even seen recipes where they tell you to let them sit overnight in a " marinade " -- what is it that you are doing if you leave home at 7 and you won't be eating until 6?) I swear on Bibles I have never had a salad go bad on me. Of course, it never occurred to me that it might be hard to drink not cold water, either. It could be something in the water. Guest guest
Hey Margaret, you are not alone......I take salads all the time as well. I put my salad in a container with my veggies, but I do not cut the veggies up until I am ready to eat the salad. I carry a small container of salad dressing. Any of the veggies that are pre cut up and moist I put in separate containers or baggies and add them when I am ready to eat. I also keep some sprouts and nuts and seeds to toss on or nibble on during the day as a snack. Leslie
