Guest guest
Curious about this, because it can be very cheap or more expensive than gold! Trying to find a good but low cost one... Kristi

Trying to find a good but low cost one... I do not so much buy a *brand* as a *kind*... I use only *extra-virgin olive oil*. I am on a budget, so I usually buy whatever is cheapest where I am when I am buying. In New York City, there are many ethnic markets and many supermarkets carry ethnic products, as well, so I often end up with Greek or Spanish extra-virgin olive oil. Each one has its own unique taste, which is different from the usual " Italian " olive oil. I usually buy what is cheapest where I am (we use a lot of olive oil, so sometimes I buy a gallon at a time in a Greek or Spanish market). For the politically-inclined, I am going to have to admit that I *trust* the manufacturers to be producing what they promise the US government they are producing. My budget does not include pricey exclusive guaranteed organic guaranteed and warranteed and money back if you are not delighted extra virgin olive oils, although I do pick them up when they show up in the jobbers' stores (I am just finishing about a sixth months' supply of Hain's olive oil -- many small bottles-- that I picked up in a 99cent store) Margaret
Guest guest
I do only buy organic and cold-pressed, but from many articles I've read, the US does not us the same standards as Europe, many olive oil brands are diluted with hazelnut oil and it is legal. (Even organic and cold-pressed) Kristi
Guest guest
I wonder if the statement " fat is fat " would apply here? Guest guest
Hi Kristi, I just read the label on my bottle of Trader Joe's olive oil the only ingredient listed is organic cold pressed olive oil. It seems to me that if the oil was diluted with hazel nut oil the list of ingredients would reflect that. Guest guest
Any oil is a processed food and basically just free fat. I love olive oil, don't get me wrong, but I know that it isn't really a healthy thing to eat. Any fractured food is less nourishing than the whole food. Guest guest
Yup, you are right, I'm just trying to find a " better " olive oil which is not so refined. I don't eat a ton, but I use it in recipes and salad dressing. Kristi On Mar 28, 2006, at 1:59 PM, jerushy1944 wrote: > Any oil is a processed food and basically just free fat.
