How the work lunch worked out.... :-)

For those who were annoyed at the conversation about my issue with work provided

lunches, PLEASE DELETE.

Anyone else who wants to know how it turned out... please read

on.

As you may recall when the planner sent out an email to everyone telling us

the date and time of the lunch, I asked if there would be salad this time and

the planner said no and that she didn't want to start taking special orders.

Yesterday she called me and said, We are having lasagna and bread sticks are you

eating? I said no.

This morning, I happen to talk by while she was working on the lunch trivia

games and said " oh, don't look. " I said not to worry, I wouldn't be there

during the lunch and I wouldn't tell the others.

She stopped what she was doing and said, you really aren't going to eat? No,

I have been eating raw long enough now that it really makes me sick (like

stomach cramps) to eat cooked food now. Then she said, so what are you going to

do when you go back to eating normal again?? I looked at her and shook my head

" no " and her eyes got big, " you aren't going to go back to eating normal? "

When she said that, it occurred to me that she either didn't take me seriously

.... or thought it was some thing that I would get over...

I am too old to out grow it, but maybe she thought it was a phase or fad.

I have to be honest, deep down my husband probably thinks this is a phase and

that I will " get over it " in time.

I am glad to accept the challenge and prove them wrong.

By the way, I am the only person here not in a brain fog from that pan of

lasagna.

Leah,

Thanks for the update on your office lunch. So, what DID you do while they

were eating that lasagna??

You know, I had a fiance once that thought my vegetarianism was a fad, too.

I guess it was... it lasted about seven years and then I moved on to

veganism. Apparently, that may be a fad too, as now -fourteen years later-

I am transitioning to raw vegan.

Now that she knows you don't plan on going back to cooked food, and eating

it gives you stomach cramps, I wonder if she'll be more sympathetic. And,

if not, oh well... you can continue making/taking your own food and feeling

great. One of these days, people in the office will notice. :)

I for one commend you on standing your ground. I know that was a very difficult

foot to put down. Its hard to go against those we work with for fear that it

will lead to more " chaos " but it was brave of you to stand up for your health.

Next time she uses the word...NORMAL....ask her where it is written that cooked

food is normal and fresh food is abnormal....then ask her who will live

longer..LOL!!!

Ok that is just my sarcastic side coming out...but honestly....I wish I could

slap people who think their way is the RIGHT way and everyone else is just going

through a phase or fad....

GRRRRRR...LOL!!!!

Koodos to you for standing your ground....!

Awesome message - thank you. I work in a hotel and temptation seems to

be around every corner and half the time right on the next desk as

people in my department order in all the time too - enough said.

Thanks again for sharing. It made ME feel a little stronger.

I'm new here....

I read some of your post, integrity is something special :)

On the other side, I work in a mom & pop health food store, we

have some raw products such as the raw bulk nuts/seeds, some dried

fruits, Juvo http://www.gojuvo.com/ and some raw bars among the

shelevs of vegetarian, organic and/or all natural foods. A woman

and her daughter came into the store the other day, I could hear her

daughter about 5 tearing apart the store, picking up and dropping

things, mom scolding saying not to touch several times, I finally

had to tell her to not stick her hands in the bulk bins. I asked

mom if she needed any help or has any questions for me, she inquired

about the organic, raw sugar we had on the shelf, if it had any more

nutritional value than grocery store whit sugar. I proceeded to

tell her that it is less processed, being raw and less chemicals

used being organic. She went on telling me that she wanted the

sugar for her daughter's kool-aid, I then asked, in a shocked tone

(here is where I think I made a mistake) " you give your daughter

kool-aid? " . She then told me that she used splenda and I winced

stating that splenda is proccessed with chlorine. i gave her

alternatives. I told her stevia was a better bet and 100% fruit

juice cut in half with water is by far better than kool-aid any

day.

I feel bad, no horrible that I judged someone so harshly. In my

job I am constanty helping people, giving advice although I am not a

doctor but I am trying to help people not go to the doctor, I preach

preventitave medicine. School lunches have been a thorn in my side

and although my son is not in school yet, when he gets there he will

be brown bagging it if it kills me.

Or maybe this mom will think about my reaction and look into the

chemicals she and her daughter is ingesting, and rethink her food

philosophy.

I think it's alway important to remember that food is an important

part of relationships. Not attending parties because people won't be

eating raw, letting your relationships suffer because of your diet,

etc. etc. I have often met raw foodists that make it almost a part

of their personality, almost attention seeking.

If there is a party at work...Bring a dish along and share with

others (you just might convert someone).

Remember that the hallmarks of ON (Orthorexia Nervosa)is that it

leads to social isolation and impaired relationships.
