Guest guest
Today has been an interesting day of experimenting with success and failure. First let me share the success, I finally made a cracker that I like! Woooo hoooo! Some one, I think Tommie, posted a warning that the raw cracker dough wouldn't be as hot (spicy) as the final product. Man, she wasn't kidding. The veggie crackers I made were from a recipe posted here on the list, and I might have gotten a little heavy handed with the garlic and onion, but the product is fantastic! Before I started eating raw, my hobby was tex mex food. The hotter the better it my motto. The failure... I tried to make the chocolate mousse recipe. Obviously, I did some thing wrong. It didn't come out creamy like the picture on Judy's website. Mine looks kind of grainy, and tastes about as good as it looks. Question, it called for cocoa. I used organic cocoa powder from the health food store, is that where I went wrong? And I drained the soaking liquid off the dates, should I have used that to make it creamier? In more general terms I have been thinking about success and failure too. I think the saying, " failing to plan is planning to fail, " is true of my raw journey. If I plan for snacks and don't let myself get too hungry, I seem to have so much more will power. If I plan ahead and have raw items ready to eat at all times, my will power is almost iron clad. Every thing goes south when I miss a couple of snacks and don't have some thing raw and healthy ready to devour instantly. If anyone managed to read to the end of this rambling, would you share your suggestions regarding hair loss / thinning? Thanks, and have a wonderful Easter. Guest guest
Hello, Leah! I hardly ever make any recipes any more. I'm perfectly happy with plain old food but I figured I'd make some " meatballs " by Judy's recipe. I kind of violated my own rule about keeping the seasonings on the bland side because they concentrate with dehydrating. I was determined not to use Braggs so I've overdone it with the onion and garlic, I'm afraid. They're in the dehydrator so I don't know for sure. I was a little reluctant to use onion and garlic because I've not been eating them and I had finally gotten rid of the strong-smelling perspiration but here I go again...If it hadn't been Easter, I would have eaten like any other day. I cut the recipe by 1/3 but it still made 13 (anyone superstitious?). I hope they're decent. They don't look like Judy's but I don't guess they have to. Guest guest
Tommie, 13 meat balls!! I am so glad you said that you cut it down by 1/3 and still ended up with so many, other wise I would have made it without thinking about the size of family she is feeding and I would have been up to my eye balls in meat balls. Even though I have others in my house, when it comes to uncooking, I am making for just one. How long could the " meatballs " or " hamburgers " be kept? And would they be refrigerated? I haven't been making alot of recipes, but instead eating simple combos of one or two items. I miss cooking, so I thought trying some of the raw recipes would fill the void. Now that tax season is finally over, I can put my creative energy into scrapping or quilting and take my mind off food. Guest guest
As a matter of fact, Leah, I made 1/3 recipe. I misspoke or miswrote how much I made. I tried one and it wasn't too tasty. I had blended up cashews with water, sea salt, and onion powder to go over them and that was pretty good. I'm not crazy about rich any more. I used to love to cook but I have gone for more than 10 months without doing it except for one meal and I don't miss it. I'm going to try mixing the meatballs with some thing else--I haven't decided what--to see if I can salvage them. Nuts are pretty expensive and I hate throwing them away. I have " burgers " in the freezer and I imagine that the meatballs could be frozen, too. I'd like to get some of Doug Graham's recipes. I have Instant Raw Sensations by Frederic Patenaude and The Green Revolution Recipe Guide by Fred and Contributors and they are good. They don't have any " main dish " type recipes, though. Maybe I should just give up and eat simply. That's the best way, anyway. I topped my meal off with some durian so all was not lost!
