shocked recently to have a (carnivorous, cooked) chef tell me he buys nuts

from a local (Florida) store where I never shop because they keep their nuts in

room temperature bins. I thought all chefs know to keep nuts cold.

http://www.eatraw.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=ER011 has some right

now. Nature's First Law is out of stock. If you order from them

through Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007YVB4I/002-

1204595-3585601?v=glance & n=3370831 I don't know if you could get them

or not. Quintessence used to have an online store but it's out of

commission. I've seen them at Whole Foods if you live near one. The

closest one to me is three hours away.

Oh, don't I know it! David Wolfe sells them for a premium price. Know of

any other resources for them? I'd be interested for my Christmas and

holiday " baking " .

Thanks, Shari

Shari, the shipping is cheaper from David Wolfe than it is from

EatRaw. Unless you can get them at Whole Foods and not have to pay

shipping, I don't know of anywhere cheaper. Quintessence had them for

$9.95 a pound but they don't have an online store any more. :(

" Quintessence had them... "

Too bad about what happened with those restaurants and their owner. It was

shocking, sad and disappointing.

My whole foods does not keep their " raw " cashews in the cooler. I'm with

the thought someone else mentioned - if the nuts are not in the cooler I

don't buy them, especially cashews, macadamias, and Brazil nuts.

He was arrested for exposing/fondling himself on the subway in NYC. The

girl just happened to have a cell phone with camera, took a picture and then

called the police. Guess it wasn't the first time it had happened.

Wow! That's terrible. Not exactly a good example to set as a leader

in this movement!

Shari, the really raw cashews are vacuum packed so they stay fresh

without refrigeration.

I tried to order them and it wouldn't process through after I put in

all the info. I called the number that's listed on the web site and

the woman who answered told me they don't send out orders any more.

They deliver locally. I asked if that included nuts and seeds and she

said yes. I told her that they need to take that page off their site.

She thanked me and hung up. More's the pity since they were so cheap.

Maybe that's why they had to quit?

If you don't have the refrigerator space for you oily nuts you can buy

a home unit and vacuum pack them in smaller packs. I vacuum packed mine

and then stored them in the freezer but would prefer the fridge if I

had room. Freezing does decrease the life force but is not suppose to

kill the enzymes.

Actually, Quintessence is the restaurant I went to last week. It is

still alive and well. The owner has some " issues " , shall we say, but

the restaurant is fabulous. I had never eaten raw food in a

restaurant and I was astounded at what could be done (my basic food is

something ground in the food processor and added to sprouts, or else

dehydrated crackers with the above on top of them. I learned that I

could put some kind of " cheese " on my crackers and get a pizza-ish

taste... so I went home and made some crackers based on three recipes

and my ideas, and then I made some " almond cheese " loosely based on a

Gabriel Cousens recipe. The few SAD food people I tried them on said

they were good. One of those people never likes anything she doesn't

cook... so I felt good.

Back to the owner...

He apparently has a penchant for showing his wares on the subway. He

got caught at it last year I think.

This time, the young girl he decided to " honor " had a camera cell

phone turned on and in her hand when he went into action. She

photographed the part, and then she photographed the other head, i.e.,

the offender's face. Then she asked her friend to hold her hand as

they walked off the train.

The owner was not present when I ate in the restaurant, and the place

was about as packed as a 10 table restaurant can be. The food is

good. I don't feel guilty because, when I went there, I had not put

two and two together, so I had no clue that it was *his* restautant

(the news just reported " the owner of a popular downtown restaurant.

There are so many restaurants " downtown " (in New York City, " downtown "

is not the central shopping/business district, but rather a trendy

area in Manhattan -- the part of the city which most people think of

when they think of New York-- where there are up and coming shops,

businesses, restaurants, clubs, and prices!!)

I have struggled with my conscience on the issue of patronizing a

restaurant owned by a known sex-offender and have come to no answer...

this restaurant does educate, and it does provide a product otherwise

unavailable in these parts. Nevertheless, I would not like to support

the habit of a known sex offender. Still, the food was so good and I

need to find out more. BUT am I condoning the owners actions by

patronizing his establishment (my parents boycotted Dr. Zhivago

because Julie Christie was fornicating with Warren Beatty)

Oh, life in New York! Oh, morality! Oh, personal decisions on what is

right ane what is wrong and how right is right and how wrong is wrong,

and if I did not know it was wrong when I did it, does that make it

still not wrong now that I know? or does it beome wrong once I know.

Oh... the fact that I do know the answers to those questions, and

oh, I wish I did not know.

Wow. I had no idea that was him. That sort of cancels out the good

news that Quintessence is still serving meals - I thought they were

turning that location into a desert shop.

Margaret, if we knew everything about everybody, and wouldn't buy

from them because of that, we wouldn't have vary many, if any, places

left to shop! I base my decisions on where to buy on totally selfish

reasons--the quality and the price. The only person I can apply moral

judgment to is myself. It's too bad that it happened but the

difference is, he got caught. Lots of people do things they shouldn't

and no one ever finds out. Go, eat, and enjoy!

I've ordered them from http://www.eatraw.com and http://www.rawfood.

com. Shipping from rawfood is cheaper. I try to keep a pound ahead in

case they get scarce.

Tommie:

I sure wish there were a way to write you off-line. That way, it woudl

be a lot easier to explain my " sense of humor " when you miss it.

Oh well. I was being silly.... duh!

Do I really worry much? Nope.

Do I eat what I please? Pretty much.

Do I care what anybody else thinks about what I eat? NOT!
