Guest guest
If you're still interested in our previous discussion, I've enclosed my email to Dr. Bratman and his reply. (He basically wanted us to know that there had been some modifications made to his previously strict list of symptoms, because of negative feedback from raw vegan groups in the past. The link is within our conversation below): Hi, Dr. Bratman. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my email. I am a raw food lifestyle advocate who has read your online 'Original Essay on Orthorexia'. I belong to a raw food community group; that's where your essay was mentioned. Below is my reply to another group member's reply on the subject of Orthorexia Nervosa. You may find a few more critical but useful replies on our group homepage by clicking this link: rawfood/ Thanks, Tiffany: " I agree with Leah about this creation of a medically termed disorder being an excuse for for people not taking responsibility for their health. And, I believe that this is yet another attempt for the medical industry to keep people on the SAD diet so that doctors get more business from disease-stricken patients... " stevenbratman <stevenbratman wrote: I don't actually work for " the medical industry " I do agree, though, that my checklist for orthorexia is a little silly. However, you might find it interesting to read this article by rawfoodist Thomas Billings -- particularly where he talks about the concept " touching a nerve. Although you stated that you " don't actually work for 'the medical industry' " , I'm very concerned that doctors whom read your accounts would take them to heart and shun the whole idea of the raw food lifestyle being a great addition to his or her patients' prognosis for curing serious disease conditions. Or worse, warn the growing amount of the public who are just beginning to find out about and practice the raw food lifestyle that they might regret incorporating a mostly raw food diet in the long run. I read the 'updates' made in response to the negative feedback to your listed symptoms, and I agree with those - thanks for passing them on. I will in turn pass them on to my group. Have a wonderful rest of the day, Tiffany
