Guest guest
What is henna? Raine <raineluvsj wrote: I have read that dying hair with henna is good to help stop hair loss- no clue why. Guest guest
Thanks for your recommendation based on experience, Raine... I've recently read the Terressentials.com newsletters about the harsh chemical ingredients in conventional hair dyes that progressively damage hair (making it porous so that the dyes can get stuck in the shaft but then hair dries out and becomes brittle) and absorb into the bloodstream through the follicles, accumulating to toxic levels in the brain, liver and kidneys. They suggested henna as an alternative, as it coats the hair by means of a more natural bond, but I haven't found out exactly how that is. But I know for sure I'll be using henna to condition/tint my long hair which has been damaged in the past by so-called 'all natural' hair dyes bought off the supermarket shelves! -Tiffany Lohr Leah Morrison <l_morrison2002 wrote: What is henna? Guest guest
It's what my mother use to put on her hair, Leah. Here's what I found on the WWW. " The main ingredient in henna is hydroxynaphthaquinone which is obtained from leaves of the Lawsonia tree. " Now, for me, I don't know any more than I did before. Anyway, it says that it can be used for " tattoos " but the stuff it's mixed with to make it dry faster can be carcinogenic. The stuff for the hair shouldn't have any of that, though. It gives the hair a reddish cast. Guest guest
Henna is dye made from plants. You must be careful though as some henna is adulterated. This is the best site I have found for information on henna, and what to add to get the color you want; http://www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/ I have experimented with adding many things and have had some terrific colors! The one I have currently is my favorite. I made it with henna, amla (a hair conditioner), indigo, red wine, paprika, cloves, and some essential oils... -Raine Leah Morrison wrote: > What is henna? > > Raine <raineluvsj wrote: I have read that dying hair with > henna is good to help stop hair loss- > no clue why.
