JJ, Shichimi Togarashi is available in Japanese groceries, where it is also sold as Seven-Spice Red Pepper. It contains a coarsely crushed mixture of red pepper, a special Japanese pepper called sansho, roasted sesame seeds, roasted white poppy or hemp seeds, white pepper, and tiny bits of orange peel and seaweed. You can buy Shichimi in small narrows glass jars (real tiny and slender like the ones you see at the sushi bar) or once you fall in love with it, look for the big one or two pound bags (like I do). Hope this helps. Attached is the recipe revised with the Shichimi explanation for your archives. She says in Iran this is served in bowls and eaten with a spoon on blisteringly hot summer days. Although her " drink " is sweet, that sentence got me inspired to create this tasty, low caloric refresher. It can be eaten at any time of the day: as a snack, a salad, a relish and it can even stand in as " Raita " for vegans. Avoid waxed big cucumbers which taste like nothing. Most Middle Eastern stores as well as Asian stores (especially Korean) have a nice selection of small tasty cucumbers. Serve immediately garnished with some fresh herb sprigs, or chill until serving time.
