Poppadums / pappadams are those very thin breads served in Indian restaurants while you are waiting for your food to arrive. You can buy them in any Indian grocery store. Preferable ways to heat them up are grilling, or a friend of mine uses the microwave. We had them tonight before an excellent Indian meal, but still I think a google search came up with a better description: Encyclopedia pappadam; poppadum [ PAH-pah-duhm ] A wafer-thin East Indian bread made with LENTIL flour. This TORTILLA -like bread can be unseasoned (as preferred in southern India) or variously flavored with red or black pepper, garlic or other seasonings, as in northern India. Pappadams are available in Indian markets in various sizes and flavors. Deep-fried pappadams puff up to almost double their original size.
