Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and saute until tender, about 5 minutes. Add the corn kernels and saute for another minute just to heat them up. Add the cornmeal and stir constantly over low heat, until the cornmeal begins to smell toasty, about 1 minute. Add the broth and whisk the ingredients together. Stirring continuously so that the cornmeal doesn't lump up, bring the liquid to a boil over medium heat. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Cover the saucepan and simmer until the cornmeal is thick, about 15 minutes.
