Guest guest
Hello. Having enjoyed many a recipe from this fine group, I'm looking for recommendations on a cookbook. Like most people, I've got little time for food preparation, etc... I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a cookbook (vegetarian...but preferably vegan) with a wide selection of QUICK, EASY, HEALTHY, CHEAP recipes. A lot to ask maybe? I don't mind soy foods, but I'm definately not looking for a book that simply takes all the standard meat dishes and substiutes soy. Any help? Of course when it come time for the more elaborate and delicious meals, Veg-Recipes is always my first stop!! But with recent time constraints I need some help! Thanks! I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a cookbook (vegetarian...but preferably vegan) with a wide selection of QUICK, EASY, HEALTHY, CHEAP recipes. - My best recommendation would be:- Veetarian Express by Rose Elliot. The tag line for this is " fast fresh food for energy and vitality " . It is not vegan but most of the recipes are OK. There are two versions of this book, the one I have is listed by Amazon as in print. It came up number 42 when I searched on " Rose Elliot " . Another good book by Rose Elliot is " Vegetarian Meals in Minutes " 200 recipes. This tends to use butter, but I have always replaced sunflower spread quite successfully in them. I can't find this on Amazon, but they do have Rose Elliot's Vegetarian Fast Food: Over 200 Delicious Dishes in Minutes. Which is probably the American version of the same recipes. Both these books are good for quick recipes, if you want cheap then see if you can find a copy of Rose Elliot's " The Bean Book " . Amazon lists some second hand sources, it came up 26th in my search. I do have books by other authors but Rose Elliot is so good - she is the leading British Vegetarian writer, and very prolific. Hope this helps, Best wishes Adrian

Guest guest
I don't know if you can get ahold of it, but _Cookin' Healthy with One Foot Out the Door_(1994 - The Book Publishing Company), by Polly Pitchford and Delia Quigley (the " Bad Girls of Natural Food " - see them on the back cover in sequined gowns with their Harley Davidson's!) is one I'd recommend. It has lots of fast recipes, most of them use cheap ingredients, and it's funny, too. They have recipes with names like " Hothot Couscous Cerealcereal " , " Swing-Lo Mein " , and " Educating Raita " , but even if you hate puns, you'll love the book. It's vegan except for honey - I just substitute maple syrup and it works fine. Lisa On Thursday, November 13, 2003, at 04:17 PM, suskified wrote: > Hello. Check out " 20 Minutes to Dinner " by Bryanna Clark Grogan. It's completely vegan and contains a wide variety of recipes. Bryanna is a prolific author, and all her cookbooks are vegan. In this book, she covers ingredient substitutions, bean cooking times and ways of shortening time spent in the kitchen. She also gives a food glossary and mail order sources for items which may not be locally available.

I like " How It All Vegan " and " In the Garden of Vegan " . The recipes are usually pretty easy and fast, and there's not a whole lot of the fake meats in them. The recipes are great too! One warning, a lot of the recipes make huge servings (I can usually serve 4 from some of the recipes that serve 2).
Guest guest
Jay's solomon's 101 Vegan Recipes. Love that book. Most are pretty easy. some take a little longer.. mostly just chopping veggies though takes the longest. N.
