Guest guest
Hi to all I've just joined this group and have a question. I was vegetarian for 15 years and then somehow fell back into eating meat. I'm now trying to back into it, and am considering a raw foods diet. One question I have is I now suffer from Irritable Bowl Syndrome, and wonder how such a diet would affect that. I'm curious if any of you have similar issues, and are there certain foods you find either helpful or that you avoid on this sort of diet? Any pointers as to where I could find more information about this would be most appreciated. Thanks Pavonis
Guest guest
Hi, Pavonis, Since I don't suffer from the same thing, I don't feel qualified to give you advice. I do know that the raw food diet, done properly and with the most " friendly " foods, can be healing. If you want to post your question on Dr. Doug Graham's forum http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/index.html you would be sure to find some expert advice. You could do a search there and see if the subject has already been covered. That's where I go for serious no nonsense advice. Nine times out of ten, I can find what I need without posting. Guest guest
Hi Pavonis, My brother was misdiagnosed as having IBS when he was in high school. Later on we discovered that actually he had Celiac Disease, which is very widely misdiagnosed as IBS and is actually an intolerence to Gluten. Along with classic IBS symptoms he had a very distinctive, flimmy cough that would come on almost immediately after he ate something with wheat gluten in it, such as flour tortillas or a hamburger bun. As soon as he eliminated all forms of Gluten from his diet his symptoms disappeared, he was able to gain weight and feels and looks much healthier nowadays. I would urge you to get tested specifically for Celiac Disease if you can. If you have it, a Raw diet would certainly improve your condition as it would greatly reduce or eliminate the amount of gluten containing items you eat. Good luck!
