Guest guest
What time of day do you go out in the sun? If your shadow is shorter than you are, the sun is high enough in the sky to tan you. I don't know about everyone else but I'm not into taking any kind of supplements. When people get involved in separating out one or two elements in a food, there is no balance. On the question of sunscreens, I'm sure they do prevent tanning since that's what they are meant to do--block the rays of the sun. You would be putting chemicals on your skin, though, and that's not good. It would also block your getting vitamin D which is why I go out to sun, anyway. It would be better to cover up if you have to be outside during the " tanning " hours. Guest guest
Most sunscreens have chemicals in them that you should not put on your skin. whateverwhenever007 <whateverwhenever007 wrote: how can this be done? will raw foods help? its a insecurity of mine, had light skin when i was younger and felt more confident, now its seriously tanned and looks dull and oily. what can help? i heard that l-glutathoine can help? also do sunscreens prevent tanning if u use one with a high spf? Guest guest
I read you only need like a few minutes of sun exposure to get vitamin D but sometimes like today the sun was scorching and my collegues a white girl and black guy where cool with the sun and i was there feeling very uncomfortable, it really got to me and feels like its burning my damn face lol. I guess its an insecurity of mine, but genrally when im lighter i feel more confident because it looks better on me i guess, but today i look so tanned it makes me look dull and oily, and it doesnt help the wax on my beep hair is making my forehead break out into like loads of spots, its digusting and uncomfortable, i thought the raw food diet would have made me have better skin and once the colon is cleanse the absorbtion of the l-gluthathoine pills would work better making me achieve my goal. I know a girl who went raw and she was black and now she looks mixed race and says she has so much energy etc. but tbh my main reason for going raw is for my own shallow reasons, just looking better i guess, oh the joys of being a teenager haha. Guest guest
Even top derms have stated sunscreen is vital, meroxl is exellent for the skin, everyone knows how important sunscreen is, to say you should not use it is like saying, yeah go out and get skin cancer, its not a joke, get protected. Guest guest
" everyone knows how important sunscreen is, to say you should not use it is like saying, yeah go out and.... " Sorry, but I have to disagree. Saying use sunscreen is like saying " here let me help you get skin cancer quicker. " The skin is our largest organ and putting sun screen on it just clogs it up and doesn't allow the vital sunshine components get to organs to make Vitamin D. We NEED the sun to hit our skin. I am a redhead by birth, green eyes, freckles and very fair. I always burned, sunscreen or no. Now, being raw for the last 10 years (at least 85 - 90% most of the time) I do not burn and the only thing I use on my skin while outdoors is coconut oil. This spring I was skiing in April and did get my face rather pink, but only because I was in the sun reflecting off the snow for 6 hours! 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. But the next day I was not red, nor was it sore. Skin cancer starts on the inside of us and sunscreen only keeps the toxins inside our body and causes more problems. Shari

Guest guest
Shari, I totally agree. I believe the manmade sunscreen preparations are for the people who indulge in manmade foods. If we eat the way we are intended to eat, our bodies will be much more adaptable to our surroundings. If we fool with Mother Nature, she isn't too forgiving. As for sunscreen being important, it _is_ to the manufacturers. It's much easier, cheaper, and better to cover up if it's necessary to stay out of the sun. Guest guest
And of course I also agree with Shari and Tommie! I have experience, too, and have researched enough to know. The following link is to a page titled: " The Truth about Sunscreens and Personal Care Products " . http://www.organicconsumers.org/bodycare/sunscreen.cfm Here's another link that elaborately backs this info with scientific evidence and credits: http://www.terressentials.com/exposure.html -Tiffany Tommie <jerushy wrote: Shari, I totally agree. Sorry. I've battled memelasa the past good 15 years. I am Metis as in mixed native and French Canadian. Yet I would never have set out to change my skin colour outher than the patches. Be happy with who you are and be happy with the sin you are in. Personally I do about 80 - 90% raw during the summer. The melasma gets worse reregardeless of this. I've used retin A, hydroquinone, IPL and am still using expensive creams. Unlike other voices here, I do believe in using very high SPF sunblock, not sunscreen. The problem is often these products are applied disregarding the directions. I also minimize my copper intake and take MSM supplements. When you are affected by this type of disorder it really affects your self esestem so commercial products are necessary. I've done the fasts and just about everything else including covering up. I always wear a hat in the summer. For me the sun is a real demon. If I thought for one moment that going 100% raw would help me believe me I would. This year I'm determined to just be happy with the skin I'm in. I'm eating more raw and drinking more water. It isn't making any difference but I don't think it can hurt and will likely be better for me in the long run. My goal is 100% raw. Right now I'm just taking one day at a time. The more raw I eat, the better. Have a GREAT gardening day. Guest guest
check the links out, it also explains how to get vitamin d with a sunscreen. http://pediatrics.about.com/od/sunscreen/a/sunscreen_myths.htm http://pediatrics.about.com/od/sunscreen/a/06_sunblock.htm maybe i buy into it, but on tv a doctor was stating how important sunscreen is.
