Guest guest
It was helpful to read about the melasma. I have them....all over. There is no doubt that being in the sun all the time as a child damaged my skin severely. I have been to dermatologists also, used Retin A, all of the expensive OTC creams, even had laser treatment (extremely expensive)...and was told by a dermatologist to have a laser resurfacing done of my face (which means basically they burn the top layer of your face off....NOT)....I am 58, but have had these marks especially on my face since my 30ies. They really do make me self conscious. Maybe I just need to learn to " live in my skin " also....I have always felt that they were an indication of some kind of toxicity and was hoping the raw food regimen would help. But that's not the major reason I'm goin raw...I just know its what I'm supposed to do. I enjoy this group. Elle

First there was the Obaji system at only $500 that actually worked for me but the derm moved away so I tried the do nothing method and it got worse. Then it was onto Retin A, hydroquinone (nasty stuff) and high SPF sunblock followed by IPL (laser) and a new higher SPF sunblock The laser got rid of some of it entirely and lightened it. I would have continued with the IPL but I was concerned over damaging my skin further. I even tried high doses of MSM coupled with vit C. My lastest treatment is Cosmelan coupled with Total Block SPF 65 which has helped quite a bit. Each thing has helped somewhat and really I likely notice it a lot more than others do. I don't wear make-up so concealing the blotches is not an option. I'm also into gardening and boating so I use other measures such as hats and clothing to help with sun protection. I drink a lot of water to keep my body well hydrated and eat a lot of raw but not 100% yet. > I enjoy this group. I do too. I love hearing the different reasons and tips. I just fell into the whole concept of eating 100% raw so I'm learning too. > > Elle > Have a GREAT gardening day.
