I Want to Lose Weight On Raw Food

In my experience, was 280 pounds. I got off white sugar (no other

changes, no exercise) and lost 50 pounds in 60 months and then

stabilized. Then went raw and lost another 65 pounds in the next 9

months and stabilized for 3 months and then went back to cooked food

and put on 35 pounds over 9 months. I have been raw again for a little

over 3 weeks and have lost 12 pounds. In my experience, just being raw

was enough to lose most of the weight. I probably would have lost more

and toned up more if I exercised but I haven't bad able to add that

component yet..

The best answer I could give you is just try different things and see what

works best for *you*, because some people can still lose weight easily on

bananas, for example, but others have to exclude them completely to lose

anything. Personally, I do mostly fruit and lots of greens (8/1/1), and as

long as my fat intake stays relatively low, I can lose weight very quickly.

My problem is that I'm just having a hard time staying raw, but when I am

100% raw, it comes off easily. That's another thing....I don't lose much if

any when I'm not 100% raw.

Maybe if you keep a journal (blog, notebook, etc.) and even track your food

intake at www.fitday.com, you will be able to tweak it until it works best

for you. Good luck! :)

I am brand new to this. It's been an evolving event for me.

It began with getting acupunture staple in my ears. The practioner

suggested a few change in my diet. I had already started several of

them. Then I decided to go raw as much as possible. I've been doing

a little research and I'm not clear on how to balance what I eat if

my desire is to shed fat.

My day begins with a smotthie of strawberries, blueberries, coconut

milk or almond milk. I often add banana and some flax. I eat raw

veggies for lunch, tomatoes, cucumbers, avacado, peppers, romaine,

etc... Munch on nuts like raw almonds, walnuts, pumpkin, and coconut

flakes. (I walk 4 miles a day).

Some research says I need to eat mainly fruit, followed by leafy

greens, and keep my nut intake to 5% - 10%. I've also read that

night shade veggies are dangerous! So.....confused!

Any advise with regards to eating raw and loosing weight!

I'm 47 - female - 5'7 " and 185. Would like to be 145 - 155.

Thanks so much

Carol - it sounds like you are doing all the right things.

Especially since you are new at this. Your menu sounds perfect to me.

If it feels good to you - then it will work.

I started blogging when we went raw in February. If you want to go and see

what we did when we started - start at the bottom of the blog and work up!

You know - the most recent entry is on top.

mawintheraw.blogspot.com

We lost tons of weight right away because we got off all white products,

flour, sugar and ate absolutely nothing from a can - package or bag. We

only ate raw and blended foods that we blended and made fabulous meals to

satisfy us and tons of green drinks. It seemed the more we ate - of the

fruits and vegetables, the more we lost. I was a size 12 and now a size 6.

Jim lost 25 lbs and went from large shirts to mediums and I had to buy him

all new pants and shorts. That wasn't anything we were even expecting. We

wanted better health.

If you want to lose weight - you came to the right place - RAW.

If you want to be healthy - you came to the right place - RAW.

If you want support and friends - you came to the right place - RAW.

Bring it on - your questions, I mean.

Everyone here loves to help.

Good luck and enjoy your experience.

It's a fun fun adventure!

question for you all. i am also trying to lose weight. i am in the

beginning stages of my life change. i also have alot to lose, 100lb.

i have heard that you really shouldnt start exercising at the

beginning, as it may be too much of stress on the body at the

beginning. that you should wait a mth.

has anyone else hear this, what are your thoughts?

I haven't heard that but I haven't heard everything, either. :) I

_had_ to start exercising after the first few days eating enough

calories. I had so much energy, I didn't know what to do with it

otherwise. Before I was getting enough fruit to eat, I was still

tired and sort of weak.

Hello, Ellen! Doug Graham's site is http://www.foodnsport.com. I have

set up a forum for people who want to follow that lifestyle primarily.

You can go to http://snipurl.com/sf3a to join. It hasn't been up long

and the membership has plenty of room to grow!

3 thoughts.

1.) It is difficult to do too many major changes at once, and I find it

most useful to add one thing (in this case the diet change) and then

once it has been successfully incorporated, and the next thing. Also, I

think you will find that once you have transitioned to being raw you

will have a lot more energy and you want/need to find an outlet for it.

2.) I am not a fan of exercise. Exercise is drudgery. Being active is

import and fun and meets the same goals. Walking, hiking, biking,

skiiing, rock climbing, fencing, martial arts, dancing, etc are great

ways of being active without being drudgery.

3.) Everyone's body is different. When and how you incorporate more

activity into your life depends on your state of health. In general,

walking is something that most people can do, particuarly if you listen

to your body. If you are tired stop. If it hurts, stop. Start out

slowly and work up to where you want to be. It is difficult for most

people to go from being sedantary to spinning classes overnight,

particuarly when you have been as overweight as you and I have been.

Best wishes.

Ok, maybe 4 thoughts :-)

4.) Don't get caught up with the numbers on the scale or the size of

your clothes. I find it better to seek health than a certain number on

the scale. The goal is to feel good, have lots of energy and too be

able to do the types of activities that you want to do.

Carol, it _can_ be confusing. Reading through your post brings out a

couple of things you might try. Keep your fats and sweets at separate

meals. Eat nuts one day and avocados the next. If you are drinking

nut milks and munching on nuts, you are probably getting 'way more

than 10% of your calories fat in a day's time. Try increasing the

tropical fruits to get your calories. Eat fruit at your morning and

mid-day meals and the salads and nuts or avocados at your evening

meal.

Good luck!

Mike, I agree with 1-3 but #4 is the man's view of the world. I'm

excited the see the numbers on the scale go down and have to pull out

clothes I haven't been able to fit in for years. For a woman, that is

a big plus with eating raw food!

Sexist! :-) Actually, I disagree that it is a man's view. I think men

are just as interested in seeing the numbers go down and the sizes

shrink. Believe me, I was thrilled to go from an XXXL to a M. What I am

saying is don't get so obsessed by the numbers that you get depressed

because the scale hasn't gone down in the past 5 days and give up on

it. Also, if your goal was 135, but you can't get below 140 is that a

reason to make yourself nuts? For many of us it is. I am just trying to

encourage myself and others to step back and look at the picture from a

different perspective.
