Has anyone ever tried making the Sun Garden Burgers, page 132, from the

" Raw Gourmet " Cookbook by Nomi Shannon? My biggest obstacle with most

of the foods I try to make is not knowing how they are supposed to turn

out. The directions are also very vague. She says you can put them in

a warm oven for 10-15 minutes, keep them in the sun until warm or

dehydrate for 4-8 hours. I guess you can eat them immediatedy or

dehydrate them for later. I just don't know what I am aiming for with

most recipes. Also, if anyone has made these and dehydrated them, how

long might they last if refrigerated?

Thanks, again for your help and guidance.

I make the Sun Garden burgers all the time and I LOVE them! They are fabulous.

Even the

people at work love them, and the people at work don't like much of my food :>)

I have

people at work begging me to make them large batches of these burgers and paying

me

for them. Everyone wanted the recipe and a couple of people actually tried the

recipe

themselves at home and warmed them in an oven and said they turned out great.

In fact, I just pulled 2 out of the freezer for tomorrow! They freeze very well.

The only

thing I have found is that they need a little warming up in the dehydrator for

about 20

minutes after defrosting. I find that they need a touch-up in the dehydrator

even the next

day after they've only been in the fridge. If you do make a batch and store them

in the

fridge, put a paper towel between the burgers, otherwise they'll stick together.

I do not follow her recipe exactly. I find they are better without the onions,

and I add

spices such as onion & garlic powder. I tried shitakes in them once and that

wasn't so

good.

I don't think you'd want to eat them immediately, they are pretty soggy at that

point. I

usually triple or quadruple the recipe, and they take about 4 hrs in the

dehydrator on

about 105. The first time I made them, they were SO good, my partner & I ate

them all up

as snacks after work! This has got to be one of the best recipes I have found. I

usually

make some guacamole to put on top of them and serve 2 with a large salad or soup

for

dinner. My food always lasts a lot longer when refrigerated than the recipe

states. If it calls

for 2 - 3 days, it generally lasts me a week. These have lasted over a week for

me before

they just simply became unappetizing, not that they turned bad. I read somewhere

that

leftovers aren't so good -- enzymes and vitamins are being lost -- but I'm not

positive

that's accurate.

Go for it! I'd love to hear whether you like them and what your experience was

after you try

them! Is there a better use for the carrot pulp?
