I am one of the people who asked the same question on the group not to long ago.

In my case I had other symptoms that along with hair loss indicated a thyroid

issue. I am on my second month of taking Thyrocare from www.wtsmed.com

I asked alot of people including my aunt who is a long time vegan. She said

that when she first went vegan she started loosing alot of hair, and when she

increase her protein intake it stopped.

I am with you, I have yet to see a definite answer.

Can anyone on this forum help me out? I have been raw for 5 months and

for the last 3 months my hair has been falling out more and more. I

often see other posters with this question and have yet to see in any

book or website, a clear answer. Is it a sign that new fresh healthy

hair is growing and taking the place of the old or is my diet

deficient in some way?

It doesn't seem to happen to all raw fooders but there seems to be a

significant number that have this problem. For those who have been on

a raw food diet for a longer period, has there been a stage of hair

loss and then regrowth? Has anyone modified their diet and seen a

change in hair loss? Could it be a lack of fat or protein? Is it just

another sign that the body operates in a delicate balance and when you

make radical changes there are side effects until everything stabalizes?

By the way, I am a 54yo female, 5' 10 " / 130lbs. I was 15 lbs heavier

and in good health when I started the raw diet. I was already dairy

free and ate very little processed food. I ate meat about three times

a week, either fish or chicken. I would appreciate any thoughts on the

matter. Thanks

I had lots of hair loss too in the beginning! I don't know why this happened to

me either! I

also lost hair but only in the beginning, it seemed like for quite a while,

maybe 6 months

or so! Then it stopped and I actually had forgotten all about it until you

posted this! So for

me it went away, I don't remember reading about this anywhere in any of my raw

food

books though! Interesting!

Anyone else lose a bunch of hair when they went raw?

The body discards trash and rebuilds new, healthier tissue. Hair is a low

priority item from the

body's perspective. So it's a simple matter for the body simply to eject the

old, then rebuild

anew as resources permit. In all likelihood, the follicles are being overhauled

from the inside

out, and the of course all the skin is being replaced regularly.

Your body is healing itself at its own pace, just keep being good to yourself

and let your body

take care of itself.

I wouldn't touch soy milk with an 80 foot pole! And besides, this is a raw food

list and soy milk is not raw.

Stay away from soy, unless of course you'd like a compromised thyroid.

Yes, the soy milk is sufficiently toxic to the body to slow down the cleansing

process.

Therefore the release of the old, damaged hair slows considerably, as do other,

higher priority

cleansing activities. You can create health, you can treat symptoms, but you

cannot do both at

the same time.

You can make raw soymilk

I'm curious why you are linking thyroid dysfunction to soy products.

Can you provide a source for that? I know that there a bunch of

phytate scares out there, but those have been debunked for the most

part, I believe.

I've got information on another group about the bad news on soy, but there's a

problem with viewing the messages right now. I think it's a thing.

Soy is NOT raw anyway, that's the main reason I don't eat it and cooked it's

very hard on the kidneys because of the high protein concentration.

There are hundreds and hundreds of research studies that have shown

conclusively that soy is harmful and damages thyroid function, among

other things. Go to www.mercola.com and do a search there for 'soy

damage' and you'll find plenty of evidence.

I wrote a lengthly post about my hair falling out since going raw and thyroid

disfuction... if anyone is interested in reading that experience my blog is

www.stampyleah.blogspot.com

I think the title of that post was hair falling out in clumps.

And by the way, my hair isn't falling out any more! It is actually growing

new short, healthly little hair!

Thanks Sharran. I was brain dead when I read the first message. The message I

had responded to was quite dated (I think) and my head was on to something else!
