Guest guest
I knew you would ask: comes from http://www.world-wire.com/news/0205210001.html FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE TOXIC DANGER OF FABRIC SOFTENER AND DRYER SHEETS, BY SIXWISE.COM STURTEVANT, WI, February 21, 2005 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Many people will remember a famous TV ad where a woman races to her washing machine, fabric softener in hand, only to arrive just as the wash ends. This woman who " forgot to ad the fabric softener " was actually doing herself and her family a favor. Although they may make your clothes feel soft and smell fresh, fabric softener and dryer sheets are some of the most toxic products around. And chances are that the staggering 99.8 percent of Americans who use common commercial detergents, fabric softeners, bleaches, and stain removers would think twice if they knew they contained chemicals that could cause cancer and brain damage. Here is a list of just some of the chemicals found in fabric softeners and dryer sheets: a.. Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer b.. Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant c.. Ethanol: On the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders d.. A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage e.. Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list f.. Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders g.. Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic h.. Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders i.. Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled
Guest guest
Hi, I am new to this group. And this thread has been really helpful and timely for me as I was just researching safer alternative methods for detergents and fabric softeners. One thing I find confusing is I have a HE washer, does anyone know if this would affect the amount of salt and/or vinegar I should use? Thanks, Rachel rawfood , " SV " <shavig wrote: > > QUIT USING DRYER SHEETS!! They have been linked to all sorts of illnesses. Fibromyaligia; MS; they put off a neuro toxin. Guest guest
It stands for High-efficiency and you are supposed to buy special low-sudsing detergent to use with it. ---- SV <shavig wrote: > What is an HE? > > Shari > >
Guest guest
I use it with a HE machine and what I do is use about 3 tablespoons of salt in the wash (detergent) bin and fill the rinse (fabric softener) bin with vinegar.
