Chemical fragrances in dryer sheets and perfumes

Great article to pass around, SV!! Dryer sheets ARE toxic... and as someone

that has MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity), I can smell them a mile away

on other people's clothing and I have to hold my breath or they'll make me

sick. I'm also extremely sensitive to perfume, and it's also one of the

most toxic things to which people expose themselves unnecessarily. Frankly,

I wish perfume were outlawed... aside from being toxic (and unregulated in

the chemicals that are added to the ingredients), they are also usually only

pleasing to the person wearing the fragrance, and then only for the first

few short moments after application. And, like cigarettes, the exposure to

perfumes isn't limited to only the person who uses it... it is foisted upon

anyone and everyone that happens to be in the area, whether they want it or

not.

Here is some fantastic about fragrances:

Hello, folks, I'm new to the group and have been

following the recent postings about fragrances, etc.

with great interest because, like " Live Simply " I too

suffer from MCS. I first became interested in diet as

a healing tool after a friend gave me " The Maker's

Diet " book (the author made buying his supplements the

basis of the program) over a year ago. I went from

there to Sherry Rogers and her macrobiotic diet (way

too bland and restrictive) which seemed to help in the

beginning, but progress seemed to stall. I have been

nearly 100% raw for about 8 weeks now and I know this

is the right path. I have been feeling much better

lately, but I was wondering if Elchanon or other

members could give me any tips on using the raw food

diet for healing. Being new, I don't know if this has

already been discussed, I'll check the archives, but

any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Aside from the suggestions that most of the people

here will have offered, I would like to suggest that you read

anything by Ann Wigmore, read Rose Calabro's _Living in the Raw_ (her

intro says it all), read Paavo Airola, Dr. N.W. Walker's books, and

read Linda Page's Healthy Healing.

There are others-- see the list files at

rawfood/files

Welcome

Margaret, Thank you for your suggestions of reading

material. In my previous email, I had meant to ask for

advice on healing specifically for MCS, as folks with

this disease are often adversely affected by rapid

detox. I know thay many letters have already dealt

with healing and many of Elchanon's tips for healing

from lupus will be helpful. I am moving towards a

mono-diet and eliminating irritants such as onion,

garlic and hotpeppers. Dealing with another topic, the

" Master cleanse " is the type of detox that is disaster

for someone with MCS. I am planning on taking some off

work and trying a gentler fasting regimen and will see

how that goes. I'm appreciative that this group and

" Rawschool " exist, giving me an opportunity to learn

and also to vent. Thanks again, Jim
