Guest guest
As a parent and one who also opposes the orthodox medical approach to cancer treatment I sure did not like reading the news story below published today. I'm with the parents on this one. Just who is responsible for that child's welfare? If this boy dies after getting orthodox cancer treatment the parents should sue the judge and hospital for all they are worth. Ofcourse, like myself, I'm sure they would rather have their child alive than any settlement. I'd like to know the track record of the hosptial and the clinic. If that was my child there is no way I would give my legal consent for treatment to the hospital. How do the rest of you feel about this? Orionsdad ---------------- http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/07/21/D8J0MGOO1.html Judge Orders Teen to Cancer Treatment Jul 21 7:49 PM US/Eastern Email this story By SONJA BARISIC Associated Press Writer NORFOLK, Va. A judge ruled Friday that a 16-year-old boy fighting to use alternative treatment for his cancer must report to a hospital by Tuesday and accept treatment that doctors deem necessary, the family's attorney said. The judge also found Starchild Abraham Cherrix's parents were neglectful for allowing him to pursue alternative treatment of a sugar-free, organic diet and herbal supplements supervised by a clinic in Mexico, lawyer John Stepanovich said. Jay and Rose Cherrix of Chincoteague on Virginia's Eastern Shore must continue to share custody of their son with the Accomack County Department of Social Services, as the judge had previously ordered, Stepanovich said. The parents were devastated by the new order and planned to appeal, the lawyer said. Stepanovich said he will ask a higher court on Monday to stay enforcement of the order, which requires the parents to take Abraham to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk and to give the oncologist their written legal consent to treat their son for Hodgkin's disease. " I want to caution all parents of Virginia: Look out, because Social Services may be pounding on your door next when they disagree with the decision you've made about the health care of your child, " Stepanovich said. Phone calls to the Cherrix home went unanswered. The lawyer declined to release the ruling, saying juvenile court Judge Jesse E. Demps has sealed much of the case. Social Services officials have declined to comment, citing privacy laws. After three months of chemotherapy last year made him nauseated and weak, Abraham rejected doctors' recommendations to go through a second round when he learned early this year that his Hodgkin's disease, a cancer of the lymph nodes, was active again. A social worker then asked a judge to require the teen to continue conventional treatment. In May, the judge issued a temporary order finding Abraham's parents neglectful and awarding partial custody to the county, with Abraham continuing to live at home with his four siblings. Guest guest
Although I don't have kids, it makes me irate! I'm wondering who called the case in, but I think it must have been the doctor. Guest guest
Unfortunatley, I've read stories like this before. I'm aware that a doctor can call SRS if parents of a cancer patient (child) refuse conventional treatment for cancer (i.e., chemotherapy, surgery). There are some incredibly sad stories out there of victims that do not survive. More and more of these stories are popping up as a result of vaccinations, I believe. Kids get more vaccinations now than when I was growing up, and I'm currently 38, and I believe this contributes to earlier onset of various cancers. Guest guest
Don't count on it. A woman in Seattle was arrested for kidnapping her OWN child from Children's Hospital. She wanted him to have alternative care instead of being put on dialysis. She knew it would set him up for a lifetime of medical woes. Her case was not reversed. She is on trial for kidnapping and the chile is a ward of the state and now has a permanent shunt for dyalisis. It was never stated, but I think she was on welfare and that's how hers came to light. Guest guest
Hi Kristi, With all due respect, I doubt very much this case will be overturned. This happens quite frequently. Conventional wisdom is that cancer treatments and chemotherapy are a child's only hope for survival. Janet Kristi <pixiechik wrote: Although I don't have kids, it makes me irate! Guest guest
While I agree with the sentiment here, we must remember that everyone (including the law and orthodox medical community) are acting in what the believe to be the child's best interest. If you saw a house burning with a child in it and the parents were leaving the child in their saying that God would protect their child and we should not interfere we would think they were nuts and rescue the child from these unfit parents. This is what we look like to most of the medical community. What needs to happen, in my humble opinion, is for research to be done on the raw food diet which would show the world we are not as crazy as we appear. In this country most research is funded by corporations who stand to gain something from the outcome of the research, so no one is axious to fund this research and in fact those who have a lot to lose will actively try to prevent the research from being done. The raw food community itself, needs to find a way of funding the research ourselves. -Mike --- orionsdad <no_reply > wrote: > As a parent and one who also opposes the orthodox medical approach to > cancer treatment I sure did not like reading the news story below > published today. Guest guest
That is terrible! I really just have no words. I had no idea this was possible (although I do know about the Andersons (sp?)). Guest guest
The medical establishment is not looking to make business for alternative providers, thats the bottom line. Guest guest
I am sure that many of you are aware of the Courts forcing parents to treat their children with conventional medicine even if their religious convictions prohibit it. I know several Christian Scientists who are opposed to most modern medical practices on religious/spiritual grounds. I am sure many of you are aware that the Jehovah's witness sect does not allow for blood transfusions, but I have heard of cases where a judge steps in and tells a family what is best for their children. Its actually kind of frightening to think of some person in a black robe telling you what is best for your life. I think the Founding fathers are rolling in their grave over this. While personally I am not opposed to traditional forms of treatment for cancer etc, I believe that everyone should determine what is best for them. In the case of Children, parents are the best equipped to make such life and death decisions.
