Guest guest
Hi RFers, I was perusing the Files section and came across a file about pure water. The person who wrote this document believes that steam distilled water is better than reverse-osmosis systems. I disagree for the following reasons. I used to sell $5000 water purification systems which included a water softener and a reverse osmosis system. I did a considerable amount of research on water and learned that there are around 250+ chemicals that will vaporize with water, and therefore will still remain in the water that is collected from condensation. The writer of the document stated that, " I found that the Reverse Osmosis tended to have the plastic tubing turn “green” on me, which seemed like some type of algae to me….no thank you! " . I believe that this problem existed since there is no longer chlorine in the water. I once worked for a laboratory that had to have a sterile environment. They used distilled water that had been run through a reverse osmosis filter. This was to save money on the filter, and not to have " purer " water. I have since learned from the book, " Detoxify or Die " , that there is another water purifier out there purported to be even better than reverse osmosis. I believe it is also an RO unit but leaves the water alkaline and not acidic. I need to do more research on this product, as I'm not completely convinced. Guest guest
Janet, I would be very interested to know what your thoughts are on the latest Amway water filter called 'e-spring' which is purported to be 'the bees knees' The website for it is here: http://www.espring.com/ I donot like many of their products as they are not as 'clean' from chemicals as they would have you think, but did wonder about the filter as it does appear to be good. Also, what about the line of thought that when we become too clean, we stop our body being able to deal with certain bugs/bacteria etc. and are more likely to get ill from them ? Just a thought. thanks Julie
Guest guest
Hi Julie, I took at look at the website and the features of the water filter that you addressed. I'm sure that the water coming out of the filter will be better than the water coming out the tap. However, I noted that one of the " features " is that it, " Does not remove beneficial minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and fluoride " . That tells me that other chemicals will also remain in the water. I do not want flouride in my water as I do not believe in so-called " benefits " of flouride. In fact, I switched to using natural toothpaste to get away from using flouride brands. I've read plenty of literature from both sides of the issue and that is my final assessment of flouride. Also, I never saw any specific specs on the water filter describing what kind it is. It appears to be a carbon filter. Carbon filters will eventually build up and if they are not switched out, the water will contain more contaminants than the original source (tap). I don't believe that the body needs any additives in the water to be healthy. My husband and I have been drinking RO water for about 16 years and I rarely get sick. I hope this helps, Janet Julie <metamorph689 wrote: Janet, I would be very interested to know what your thoughts are on the latest Amway water filter called 'e-spring' which is purported to be 'the bees knees' The website for it is here: http://www.espring.com/ I donot like many of their products as they are not as 'clean' from chemicals as they would have you think, but did wonder about the filter as it does appear to be good.
