Guest guest
I thought they were " all " supposed to be great! I just bought an old but " unused " Model 3600 from 1984 (at least that's the year it was purchased). My first use was awful. I tried to make nut butter as the directions said. I blended and blended and blended and reversed and blended and blended and reversed and blended and reversed and blended some more and came out with half nut butter half completely un-chopped nuts. Then I tried my green smoothie. My regular blender blends it ALL up but it's kinda thick. I broke one regular blender already and I think this other regular blender is going soon. So I got Vita-Mix. Someone else said they got an old one and it works great for them. I used the Vita-Mix for my green smoothie and well the part that was blended was blended very well and smoother HOWEVER there were still chunks left even after extra blending and blending and reversing….well you get it. Then I tried almond milk. My regular blender blends it ALL up. The Vita-Mix did not even with extra blending and blending and reversing, etc. There were still some chunks. I am so disappointed that I went through all this trouble to get what is supposed to be so great and it " sucks rocks " as my daughter said after she tried and failed to make her fruit smoothie in it. She had switch to the other regular one to finish. I was wondering how it would work so well being that the blades are so flat and are so far from the bottom and so it doesn't work well, not at all. Also the spigot feature seemed kinda nice BUT stuff gets stuck in it and it makes it hard to clean. And the fact that the bottom does not come off makes it hard to clean too! Plus there is no lid at the very top and it does splatter no matter how little or how full it is. I just use a plastic cup lid to contain the splatter, but it seems silly not to have a lid included. Sooooo I want to know should I even try to get another used one of a different model (because I can't afford a new one) or not? If so which ones are recommeded? I really can't get over how much people rave about the Vita-Mix when my experience has been beyond awful!!! Please help! Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Minnie, I have a newer Vita mix then what you have, mine is about 10 years old. I have 2 containers with mine one for wet mixing with blades that point 2 up 2 down, the other one has flat blades used for grinding dry, like coffee beans or beans for making flour. I'm not sure how your is supposed to work, but flat blades makes me think its for dry stuff. Just a thought. Hope this helps. I'd try to get a newer one. Guest guest
Wow are you having a bad time with this..... I love mine but it is new, has a variable speed dial (to make things chunky or being the process with certain chunky foods) and a lid. Yours certainly must have been designed with a lid.... perhaps you did not receive it! There is just no comparison between the VM and a conventional blender. Your machine, although " new, " is 22 years old! They have made improvements I am sure..... Don't NOT try the new one when you have the opportunity to get it! Guest guest
Minnie, I have a VitaMix 4000 which is barely newer than the one you have. I think I got mine in (maybe?) 1990. I liked it as long as I was using it for cooked sauces and soups but, when I went raw, I knew it had its limitations. I started looking around and found that the L'equip costs a fraction of a VitaMix (even a used one is often more expensive than a new L'equip) and the L'equip does everything I need it to and more. The blades are at the perfect height to blend small amounts for dips and dressings. I must say, I haven't tried a nut butter in it because I don't use nut butters but it's been so good that I bought another one for work. There's an eBay seller, sonicdoo, who auctions demos and is very good to deal with. If you go that route, you can get one for $70 or less--if someone doesn't bid it up! As for the opening at the top, my instruction book and tape said to use an orange to cover it to prevent splatters. Seems they could have had a cover for it at minimal cost. I usually put a small plastic container turned upside down over mine. Now that I don't use it except to grind garbage for the compost pile, it's no big deal. Sorry you are having such a bad experience! Maybe you can sell it to someone who still eats cooked. It's great for things they'd need it for. It can cook up a storm!
