Guest guest
Hi all, I can attest to the fact that Elchanan is right about the gourmet raw food recipes contributing to cravings. I found that when I eliminated salt and spices and herbs, my cravings for cooked food went from very high and difficult to deal with to practically non existant. It was a huge blessing. It was so much easier for me to stay raw! I eat a very simple, pure diet now and am completely satisfied with it. But it did take some time to get there (a couple of years). I think in the very beginning, those recipes do help people stay raw by replicating some of the tastes and senstations that people are used to getting in cooked food but that the ultimate goal is arrive at a place where we are eating very simply: only fruits, veggies, with small amounts of nuts and seeds on their own. I found it very interesting yesterday I was very emotional. Cleaning out the shed and making decisions to get rid of some things I've been carrying around for about 25 years plus finding things of my mother's that I will never use and letting them go. I cried and I cried some more and I craved SALT!! I didn't crave bread and pasta which what I used to turn to for comfort. I really, really wanted pure unadulterated salt. And I mean I wanted a salt lick! Instead I ate bananas and celery and it passed. Still working on the shed and have to get done before the rain comes tomorrow - Shari

Still working on the shed and have to get done before the rain comes tomorrow - Shari _____ Hi all, Weekend off or not, I just " have to " respond to this one. It's a craving! :) I have been quietly expressing to a handful of people that salt may be the #1 " common " food dependency, or formed habit. I have seen many people give up sugar, coffee, chocolate, cooked food, you name it, but getting people to let go of salt is often QUITE the mountain to climb. The taste buds are so used to it, true, but more important, many people have formed an immense set of emotional attachments around salt. Literally last evening, I was talking with another from this group (who may self-identify if so desired), and he, too expressed that what he once thought was a craving for carbohydrate, he now believes is actually a craving for salt!! Imagine!! Anyway, I'm SO glad you are observing this distinction and sharing it with us all. Best, and happy weekend to all (again), Elchanan
Guest guest
Hi Shari, Good for you for crying! That is the best way to deal with emotions. It is so cleansing. It is always amazing to me how quickly and easily the emotions pass if we only give them full expression. Good for you for eliminating salt and spices! That is awesome!! Celery and tomatoes do well for me when I am " craving " salt.
