Guest guest
Audrey: Thanks for asking. I am wanting to incorporate the Living Foods lifestyle with sustainable, local food, fiber and building material growing. For example on my 8500 sq. ft, (about 0.2 acres) city lot I have some timber trees growing, bamboo, plum, fig, kiwi, apple as well as lots of flowers, vegetables (potatos, parsnips), leafy greens, insect homes (mason bees, leaf cutter bees, aphid eaters), ponds, etc.. By getting partners and developing this 3.6 acre parcel we could divide it into 10 parcels of 0.2 acres and have 10 or more individual or families working on the edible/wildlife landscape as well as them having a retail or wholesale business on each property. We would also have common areas and bike and car parking. It would be a sustainable rental property. I have been composting for 15 years, doing worm bins for 8 years, I started studying and implementing " permaculture " techniques and principles six years ago. Slowly implementing them at first then with more confidence and more sq. feet. In the last two years the soil life and growth of the above ground plants has shown a dramatic increase. Knowing what I have learned I will do the next development much differently from the start to get the fastest increase in soil life as soon as possible. If you would like to see a cool video go to www.permaculture.org.au and click on see the movie " Greening the Desert " . Guest guest
Hi Bill, I'm interested in your proposal. Are you in relation to Geoff from that video you linked to? Do you have any projects planned for any destert areas in the United States? I know of a couple people involved in local and national agricultural groups who might be interested as well. Despite the salty soil conditions you've alleviated through your irrigation and mulching program, does the climate (air/weather) prevent any anticipated results? If not, please identify ANY obastacles. In other words, I'd like to know how your third attempt failed. Thanks, Tiffany Lohr wMilmoe wrote: Audrey: Thanks for asking. Guest guest
That is a great idea Bill! I love the idea of intentional communities. I am just starting to learn about permaculture, thanks for the link!!
